Hopefully because they're debating between leaving the original standing on its own as it is, and having the possibility of releasing a Star Wars Ep 1. Or maybe they're doing the world a favor so we'll have fewer 'leet_5kuL|<z0r_n30' players in-game.
Or more likely, they're just dragging out the wait so all the teenyboppers will RUSH to see it in the theatre, before the reviews can come in enough to condemn it if it ends up being a total stinkbomb. Very few can resist the allure of huge sackfuls of cash fedexed to your front door, regardless of the quality of the new script.

Now, the hard part, which film gets the Academy Award for Best Special FX, Best Sound, Best Performance, Best Male/Female Actor/Actress, Best Picuture, and Best Director award? Or will they just divide them evenly? Cause you sure as hell know, if they don't give the Matrix at least 2 Academy Awards, there will be riots!

Do not place faith in future films based on past films. I for one get the feeling that Keanu Reeves reached his 'acting' limit in the first movie (if not in the Bill & Ted movies), so either he grows some talent or we get to sit through more wooden acting.
