<div class="IPBDescription">...</div> Don't know if anyone else has had this happen.
I'm running windows xp pro, with service pack 1, have all the latest critical updates.
Also using a radeon 9700 pro, the latest catalyst 3.2's, and the latest control panel.
For some reason lately, in the middle of playing a game of CS or whatever, sometimes the monitor will just turn off, and say "out of range".
Other times just turn off and say nothing.
Other times just freeze the whole comp.
I went ahead and reformatted and reinstalled xp.
All to no avail.
Figured I'd post here as a last attempt to see if anyone else has been having any sort of similar trouble.
Thanks in advance

Sometimes i'll try to launch a game and the screen will
just go black and i'm forced to restart my comp.
I think it might be something to do with old references
to Nvidia somewhere but i've deleted them all and even
cleaner my registry.
You say you've completely formated your system and it
still happpens? Must be the Catalyst 3.2's then <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
I have verified that this works under XP SP1 with an ATI Radeon 9700 pro running the latest catalyst drivers.
Have fun!

Also.. the Cat3.2 drivers *do* fix a lot of games, but they introduce rendering errors in some programs like Maya, and intermittent ones in GtkRadiant. I've rolled back to 3.1 until 3.3 comes out, as the only real problem with them are a very few noted bugs, and some weirdness (correctable via OS workaround, scaling down accelleration by one click) with Freelancer.
It was in fact the catalyst 3.2's that did it.
When I had the 3.2's installed, half life or any mod would freeze randomly (about 5 minutes into the game), also, if I left to go change something under the controls or multiplayer options and re-entered game, it would just go black and not come back.
Went back to the 3.1's, and have perfect functionality again. Just thought anyone might wanna know in case they've been having similar problems.

How did you go back to the 3.1 set?
Can you just install 3.1 over 3.2 or do you have to uninstall
the 3.2 set first?
How did you do it because i'm considering using 3.1
You should see two things ati related you can remove, the display adapters or whatever they're called, and the control panels.
On ati's site you can search through their drivers and go through the archived ones to get the catalyst 3.1's and the appropriate version of their control panels.
and you guys should feel lucky you have good graphics cards
me am stuck w/ factory installed one <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
