Getting Cars Repaired In The States

<div class="IPBDescription">this has been a bad week.</div> okay, so i was hard at work all evening and when I come out of the office somebody had side-swiped my car while it was parked. I only carry liablility insurance so that means that I have to pay for the damage myself, (which means i get another job). I was hoping someone could give me some pointers on how to go about getting it repaired, I live in California and the auto-mechanics out here are notoriously crooked. I want this to be as cheap as possible. Any comments appreciated.

i guess i should describe the damage.

my drivers side mirror needs to be replaced.
The front left fender is dented
the driver's side door has black paint all over it (from the other car)
and finally, the front bumper is falling off

oh, and when i said that all comments were welcome...

please don't poke fun at my misfortune. it hurts.

Could also try the classic 'big-**** suction cup' technique, if it's just a big dent in the door. If it's raked all along the side... well, call around. A LOT. Hell, go to some car enthusiasts' meetings, if you can find any in your area. Most of 'em will at the very least know a place that will get it done right, if not neccessarily cheap.

And if it's still drivable, drive on it. :b

This above all though... report it to the police as a hit-and-run, usually they'll turn up a match when the idiot who smashed your car goes in to get their own repaired. But get the report in ASAP! Takes a little time to get damage-report descriptions out to body shops, as well as to take paint scrapings for matching. If they get it fixed before you get the report in/they distribute the signs to look for, the guy has a chance to get away with it.. especially if the body shop doesn't keep any 'excess' paint (yours) that they might have pried out from under the hit-and-runner's paintjob where it couldn't be blown/washed/cleaned away.
