Follow your own advice.
1. Sayer was only trying to help you. 2. What he was saying is if you alt-tab out, alt-tab back in. At this point you will probably have lost sound. Then you press esc and click on resume. In most cases this sorts it out. 3. Don't look at scores and use voice comm at the same time. I can't see why doing so is critical to your game.
Well... you don't need to be rude if someone posts something that doesn't necessarily answer your question.
Anyhow, on topic, try looking for a program called WinKey killer. Theres an option in it that can supposedly disable alt+tab but it never worked for me. Could work for you though.
Also, you could have tried googling "disable alt+tab". Check this article for instructions. It will require registry editing and a reboot. Also, I think it only works for XP/NT.
This is a real issue indeed. The only solution to get the sound back is to restart HL and reconnect... guess no one found any solution to this other than retrieving the alt or tab key

If I close everything before starting NS (good practice anyway) then ALT-TAB does nothing as there are no application to switch to. This is under WinXP Pro, as I rarely use ALT-Tab by accident I cant say whether previous opperating systems follow the same common sense rules. What I do find anoying is when I forget to close Yahoo Messenger and a friend PM's me, it pops a feckin huge window into the forground over NS.

Thats a windows/HL thing. Not NS. If it bugs you so much i suggest that you rebind your keys to something other than alt so that you don't hit both at the same time. the alt tab thing will not change. It's a hl issue not ns. All you can do is either not hit both at the same time or to rebind.

Yep, instead of the acursed WASD formation, i use IJKL. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Funfact: LazerMane likes bread, Kevlar and Computer Games. He has a 19 inch Flatscreen PLASMA monitor and just got accepted into the Planetside Beta today. Howdy howdy fsking partners, i'm off to greener pastures!

heh, I good friend of mine was accepted into planetside beta as well. the pasteurs don't get much greener than NS...and the alt-tab thing should be fixed in the next HL patch, as was already stated....twice yeah, I know
Disabling Alt+Tab and any other combo that minimizes.
1. Right-Click on the original executable and click on properties.
2. Select the "misc" tab of the window.
3. De-select each check box you dont want to make the program minimize. EX: De-Select "Alt+Tab", or "Ctrl+Esc", or any other thing you want to disable.
However, i would suggest leaving *AT LEAST ONE* checked, should a problem ever arise.
If this does not work, try the shortcut, and if that dont work you are outta luck.
Do what I do -- run HL in windowed mode. That way you can alt-tab out just fine, without losing sound. Heck, you can still see what's going on in-game. To do that, find a HL shortcut or make one yourself.Right click it, Properties. Add -window to the command line in the Target box (so that it reads something like F:\SIERRA\Half-Life\hl.exe -game ns -noipx -32bpp -nointro -console -window ) (though you may have fewer items in there, and you shouldn't use that -game ns part... but anyway...). Now your HL will be in windowed mode until you turn it off. Be sure to re-set your resolution settings, though, to get it out of TINY window mode. Now, get rid of the -window command line option. It will still start windowed just fine, don't worry. It's just that if you leave that -window in there, it will start up in the smallest possible resolution EVERY time

I just use 'V' for voicecomm. Easy to reach, and a good mnemonic in case you ever somehow forget. Q is a little too neccessary for me, with the last-weapon defaulting there.
Though I know at least one person who has switched from WASD to ESDF <feels weird to use it> which allows you a whole new bank of keys on the left to bind to stuff.
