    bhop is so sech say

from what i've heard though it is being removed in 1.1

I'm not sure about Clan Base, but in CAL Bhop is allowed unless it's silent bhop.

Bunnyhopping is remaining in 1.1, only the foreward velocity you get will be removed.
  • RyoOhkiRyoOhki Join Date: 2003-01-26 Member: 12789Members
I'd have to say I''m confused. Bhopping staying, but the momentum removed...why would anyone bhop then? why not just take it out altogether (or is it too difficult?)

Well, if you think about it, the dev's could nerf bunnyhopping as CS did (1.3 to 1.4). Now, in cs 1.5, when you jump, you still get that forward velocity, but when you land, you slow down so incredably much, that if you do it about 2-3 times, you're jumping in the same place. If that happened to the marine side, they'd be easy alien food. I hope they can just take out that forward velocity.

All im going to say is...

    LEARN TO STRAFE.

Bunnyhopping is an exploit because of the speed increase and the silence. Both of these will be removed in 1.1, but the actual technique will still stay. Hope that clears it up.
  • lochnesslochness Join Date: 2002-12-13 Member: 10753Members
actually you can get around that slow down in cs... and affectively bhoping is still possible.

what is happening in NS however is simply you can bhop/jump/strafe jump all you want... but you wont go faster than normal running speed.

but then again i also heard that a % increase in speed for skulks bhoping will be left in, so skulks will be able to bhop but not marines, can anyone confirm this?

Skulks won't be able to bhop at all with a speed increase, just like the marines. (silence applies too)

Umm, but it IS an exploit, in this game, when you bunny hop, you get increased foreward speed, not alot, but just enough. Also when you crouch jump and move foreward you are silent, this will be changed. It is an exploit.

when they mod something against it and someone is still BH then u could say it is an exlpoit, but aslong as they have not done anything against it it is not an exlpoit, I mean I could say shooting is an exlpoit in my mod (if i ever made a mod, <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->) but aslong as I dont do anything against it I shouldnt complain becuz of the engine I chose...

Its still a little bit of Quake...

So if someone would BH in CS its an exlpoit.

It doesn't matter if it's an exploit or not.

    1) The ability to gain speed by strafe jumping will be removed in 1.1.
    2) The ability to move silently by crouch-jumping will be removed in 1.1.
--(corollary - silent, fast movement by strafe-crouch-jumping, therefore, won't work)

    3) The ability to hop around like a Mexican Jumping Bean to avoid attacks WILL NOT be removed in 1.1.

    Hope this clears everything up.

This is not a topic for discussion. It's been done to death - DO NOT bring it back up.

bunny hopping is like the very definition of an exploit. an exploit is a bug that a player takes advantage of to give themselves an advantage. it is something that couldn't work in real-life and is totally counter-intuitive and illogical and nonsensical and unrealistic and scientifically incorrect. everybody knows that zigzagging cannot make you get from point a to point b faster than going straight, and expending energy constantly jumping upward means you are using less energy to propel forward. i think the whole physics of the player need to be redone so we get rid of these stupid bugs. it will be good for the jetpack as well. another exploit is scraping along walls to go faster. what the hell were the programmers thinking?! try running with your side scraping along a wall in real-life and see if you can get places faster.

    They arent programmed in on purpose mate <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

Bunnyhopping came about because they were trying to maintain speed while turning corners, the acceleration you gain can be harnessed by repeatedly turning corners while moving in a straightline. Hence the strafing around corners movement of bunnyhopping.

To be fair, if its in, great, if not, great. I'll still do it because after playing TF and TFC for nearly 5 years, its a damn hard habit to break <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Silly me...and here I thought we were all playing Natural Selection. I musta missed the big Quake symbol somewhere in between my alien teeth chomping and the enormouse hive taking up most of a room on a marine spaceship. In fact...I don't remember anything at all about that stuff in Quake for some reason...

My point? We're playing Natural Selection...not Quake, or CS, or DoD, or the freaking DBZ Quake 3 mod, or anything else. Stop trying to compare two utterly different things. Heck, half those things aren't even on the same ENGINE much less the same game. Each game handles things differently. Natural Selection devs are choosing their way. If you don't like it, post some reasons why and form a collective group to argue against it. Otherwise, you can just keep rambling on to the walls.

Just to follow the trend (although it's my view as well)

Bunny-hopping IS an exploit. It's a physics exploitation; i seriously couldn't care less if ""elite" 0ld5k00l" Quake 2 players didn't consider it an exploit. It's using a bug in the physics engine to get more speed, simple as that.

<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->when they mod something against it and someone is still BH then u could say it is an exlpoit, but aslong as they have not done anything against it it is not an exlpoit,<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

The devs have stated mulitple times that BH IS an exploit and they are removing it. So they didn't include anti-BH coding in NS 1.0 - 1.04. Well guess what they havn't included anti-cheat software either. So by your definition because the devs have done "nothing against" cheat software it's perfectly legit? Great, I'll go download those wall-hacks and aimbots <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

Make your mind up <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> The actual effect is supposed to be there but the BHing technique is exploiting it. I am sure that this has been argued to death though so, lets not say any more about it. Like a lot of phrases "exploit", "bug" and "hax" seem to have lost their true meaning somewhat <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Using a bug=exploit. Simple. The "they haven't boethered to fix it, so I can use it" is something my 5 year old tells me. Of course, he is 5, so I let it slide. The BH has not been fixed because it is a client-side fix. There is no way that the dev teams can keep up to date with all of the exploits that people find. Why? Well, the devs ahve lives and actual work to do while we seem to have an unlimited supply of children who have nothing better to do that practice their "elite" skills and find bugs in the game.
If you still think it is only an explot if it is fixed (ironicly, making it a mott point.. how convient) the next time you get pulled over for speeding (those of you who are actually old enough to drive), try to tell the officer that you can't be breaking the law because if speeding was breaking the law, they would have done something to fix it, then send me a copy of your mug shot.

BH is a part of the Quake engine, how else would u get thse insane secrets and stuff, if u dont know BH u dont know Quake (ok im exjagurating a bit <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> < if thats a word )

U did not get my point did u

has ID or Valve ever made aimbots or wall-hacks? U cannot compare cheats with BH...

Now for the rest read what I have to say above and the other posts (wow this took me shorter then i thought)

Errr, Half-life uses the half-life engine...Quake uses the Quake engine. If you knew anything about programming whatsoever, you'd understand what two different game engines are...I'd suggest using <a href='http://www.google.com' target='_blank'>Google</a> to help you figure the difference out. So...yeah...doh. If they programmed bunny-hopping, why isn't there a bunny-hop button? Or function in the code? HL is open source, there's no magic "bunny hopping function", and again, if you don't know what a function in programming is, use <a href='http://www.google.com' target='_blank'>Google</a>.

There's nowhere anywhere commented in code or docs that says "We made a 1.2 increase in air speed so that a player may rapidly jump and strafe sideways to a blurring speed to get from one area to another because we think that's leet skillz".

And lastley, you're right, coil said it was a moot point. It's all being FIXED (note the word FIXED) in 1.1 anyway, so it's not going to available anyway. Just as a guess, I bet money you don't even know what true BH is. I bet you're one of those peeps who thing using your forward key and strafing slightly left and right is it dontcha? Where you only get someting like half the BH speed and it doesn't work incredibly well.
