<--not lookin for a fite just wanted to say what i think

back to the real reason for this thread... Leet can be very annoying if used excessively, thats why I tend to avoid it, however I occasionaly stick in a "zor" every now and then

I personally think "leet" is stupid... Why would you type n00b when you could just as easily type Newbie? I think we should all just stick to newb. It's changed from newb to noobz0r to n00b to nub... I think it's just plain stupid. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd--> when overused (those people who don't seem to be able to speak regular english, or any other national language) it's stupid, but when used in moderation it is quite amusing. who doesn't love to snackon some nubcaek on a pub server every once in a while?
shortened words and abbreviations (eg: m8) DO have a place in society. In Australia, Europe (especially Europe) and Asia it's SMS Text Messaging (due to the mobile networks being crap and expensive in America, it's used a lot less). ever tried to fit a huge message into 160 characters? i use them myself but i spell words correctly as that leaves the shortened words as a backup if i run out of space (think, very dodgy compression algorithm.....)
"This year, 1.5 billion SMS notes will zing through American air—which sounds impressive until you hear that Europe averages 30 billion messages a month." - <a href='http://slate.msn.com/id/2076197/' target='_blank'>http://slate.msn.com/id/2076197/</a>,
"elite" sp33k is ok every now and then, but u51n6 17 c0n574n71y is stupid. unless you've got size restrictions (eg: SMS, some IM's) you might as well type the full word and save some of us older people the time spent translating...
If you use a different language for IM why not have one for gaming? Who cares what we call it. It can be called leet speak, or whatever. I don't think you can slap a name on the IM language either. There are parts of any language that people don't like and to be civil, we edit them out of normal conversation. If so many people are annoyed by it, then maybe we should just agree to stop using it, or at the very least, if you don't like it don't use it. That makes you a hypocrite. I know that there is always going to be someone who isn't going to stop, but that is their problem. Bottom line is ignore it if it offends you. If you don't single out a word and give it power then it is just like any other word.
With that in mind, I only have one more thing to say:

Okay... quick rundown:
n00b - An idiot. A troll. A llama. Someone who is intentionally a raving *ss just to specifically be one. Ninj4. Newbie - Someone new to the game. Please place in the receptacle after use. nub, nublet, nubbykins - Playful prod at a friend. Antithesis of n00b.
That said... let's go burn the supergrendel for trying to impose censorships on us based upon his own prejudgements.
yea well personally i dont find nething wrong with "leet" speak... i mean ur playin a freakin game where u like freakin kill things and blow things up...and wheres the civilization in that..but thats beside the point...well theres really no point at all....

Vash, next time we play I'm going to do something that is know as "mess with the commanders head alot" *spams chuckle* I can hardly wait, now if the stupid district could get there heads *must not flame incompetent pencil pushers for stupidity* out of there arses and let us actually play NS.........gah!
Newbies are just people new to the game. What many of you describe as "n00bs" are really just llamas. Sadly, you don't hear this much more appropriate term used too much anymore, as the more crass Counter-Strikish term "N00B" seems to have taken its place...
err i hate it when people take such things so seriously/literally. languages are not fixed. in online gaming, the word "n00b" no matter how ridiculous it might seem to outsiders, has developed its own unique meanings. it's no longer something that 13-year old obnoxious kids use to insult each others for no reason. stop fighting it. if you dont like it, ignore it. when it's an issue as trivial as this, WHY BOTHER?!
let things take their own course. if "n00b" becomes generally accepted in online gaming, so be it. if not, then that's fine also. there's really no right or wrong here, the meaning of these words are changing.
Internet speak or 1 3 3 7 speak is not a language it is a lingo get it right <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
newbie = inexperienced player, whoose only problem is that they need a bit of help to get to grips with a great new mod they've just found.
n00b = offensive leet player who thinks the game revolves around them, and therefore the comm/gorge/rest of teh team should be following them, and giving them whatever they ask for. Usually typified by use of "leet speek"
I honestly think n00b is acceptable, its meant as an insult, it gets you annoyed without having to resort to words like **** , ****, **** or monkey **** spank **** fig ****scraping **** orrifice.
n00bs ,want weapons and know they can win a round if they get em and blame others for their demise by not listening.
newbies , simply do not know the game they are playing and want to learn.
get over it and end this lame thread, calling some one an idiot is more pc?
ok but i must say there are peeps that know maps and ask for weapons and can take out hives solo , they also know and respect teamplay , where as n00bs........end up in a hall no where near a hive and spamm for health when.........................................u ask yourself................................WTH is he doing there?
and yes, internet speak is a language , span-english is a recognized language. This what happens when worlds collide.......................something new is created and 1 3 3 7 speak is a hacker's language , been around since some of u were dropping pooh in yer diapers.
I agree with tommy, and I'm not even going to bother reading the rest of the thread, since the title makes me want to kick someone in the face for even bothering to post....

Hey - ignoring a single use of the word works, but not when its being used left and right:
lamer1> hey j00 n00b, suft lamer2> nou. u n00b lamer1> U lamer2> get out of my game n00bface lamer2> or ill hacxk0r u lamer1> umom grendel> SHUT THE HELL UP lamer1> nsa_vote_kick grendel grendel> what the hell [grendel has been kicked and banned for 15 minutes] lamer2> haha you haxed him, but you're still a n00b lamer1> nou lamer2> nou lamer1> noU n00b
n00b has no meaning to it as I see it, its a way of angering people by using an insult with no definition to it and now its just silly. THe next time some l337 speaker says n00b, laugh at him real hard for not being able to think of a REAL insult.
Comments
If someone was really anoying me, the last thing i would call them is a n00b, cause that would just make me look silly.
