Taldren Entertainment
I don't normally post job openings here, but I'm going to make an exception this time because this is a great opportunity that might get a few of you mappers into the game industry.
I met with a man named Erik Bethke at the Game Developer's Conference this year. He has formed a full 20+ person company, and they are entering full production on their game, but they need great level designers badly. If you're interested, send your resume and any work samples along to him immediately. I think he has positions for a few level designers, but I can't imagine those positions will stay open for long (especially in this job market).
I believe these paid positions would require immediate reloaction to Costa Mesa, California (ie, not contract or work at home, but I'm not positive).
Contact: erik@taldren.com
URL: http://www.taldren.com/
Apply immediately (I bet the positions will be gone by the end of the week) and tell him Charlie from Natural Selection sent you.

Obviously some of you are kind of ruled out by your residence outside of the US. For those of you in the US or North America, though, regardless of your perceived talent or ability, if you have any interest in going into the industry and know that you're willing to go all the way (i.e. relocation, full-time work, etc.)... go for it. At the very best, you'll get the job and be living somewhere else within a couple weeks. At the very worst, you won't get a response. You really lose nothing in the process. These people aren't going to blacklist you at every company in existence if they see a little something they don't like.
I've passed up on opportunities I shouldn't have, and I'm sure I'll end up passing up on more that I shouldn't. Don't be me. Look down deep, see if this is something you really want... and if it is, go for it.
I've rooted myself too deep in activities and school to be able to do any major relocation to any company in the near future... I'm left to hoping I can find contract work, hoping that 4D gets another contract soon, or hoping that a former coworker of mine does get the full production budget on a prototype title - in which case he may move back to Lincoln to start a new company.
Don't sell yourselves short. If the industry is what you really want, go for it. Yes, I'm saying "go for it" a lot. I can't count the number of times I've ignored that phrase so far. And I hate myself for it now.
So anyone who doesn't want to relocate, whether it be to another city or country, get over it. Game design jobs outside of the US are limited.
I wonder if they would like

My dream is to be in a gaming company and i certainly would not mind moving. (Hell i want to!) But i can't until i finish college in computer programming/networking.

good god, congratulations man. (unless this is just an April Fool's joke, though from what I've seen of your work, you are certainly talented enough).
I almost wish I'd seen this a bit earlier, but then I'm just not ready for that step yet even if I am fully committed to this kind of career.
lots a jobs for u games dev pplz
Amckern: I love you. Now to find a gaming job in Minnesota... which doesn't exist... grm. [edit] Well of course there isn't, because it's all UK jobs. Anyone know of a site like this for U.S. gaming jobs?
http://www.gamejobs.com/
or
http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/jobs_display.php3
are the only sites I know of that are halfway decent for game-related jobs.
