The Unwritten Rules Of Ns

- Do not put mines on walls (In thoughts of fades)

- Read the freaking res count before you ask

- Do not go off somewhere/to a hive and then ask "Lay a phase gate here." <-- Very annoying

- Common Sense: Do not knife an alien res noz if your in crucial situation

ADD:

- If you die as a gorge in the beginning, DO NOT regorge. It is a waste of res and you know it

- If you see one person as a gorge, do not gorge.

- (Related to above) If you enter during start of game (You have 10-13 res) and you see a gorge down, then it is ok to gorge (Ask first.)

- If you enter late game, 0 res, and you see a gorge die, DO NOT GO GORGE. You are a waste/big time idler if you enter the game at 0 res, and go gorge at 13 --->> to 0, again.

Anyway, to actually add to the thread

-Do not run off without a way point

-Do not build anything other than a Defense Chamber without asking the team first. It's like vanilla icecream.. you can't go wrong with vanilla.. but sometimes you want some strawberry or mint.

-Politely explain the situation and ask the newbie to go back to skulk <- very hard to do.. sometimes they're just so dense =/

I disagree about not running off without a waypoint... Good players shouldnt even be getting waypoints.. they block vision making it hard to aim at the enemy. A good commander will just tell the good marines to go somewhere or do something... way pnts are for the cow.

Also, your laws of ns are skewed... you have no implementation for strategy... i mean you wont even let their be 2 gorgs.. or for someone to regorg... sorry to bust your bubble but lots of clan strats do require 2 gorgs.... And why is regorging a "waist"? what if your other team members r saving for lerks... and you still need a gorg.... whats different about your teammate going gorg... and you not?

    - Don't hump the armory: You don't need ALL this ammo. You will be dead before unload all bullets. Assume it.

    - When comm say "phase", go phase. He knows what is doing.

    - Dont go gorge after 2nd hive is building to get fade before. It will retard your team.

Add: Do not lerk before second hive unless in special occasions. IE marines have 2 hives locked down or you are uber good etc..
  • laggerlagger Join Date: 2002-10-31 Member: 1805Members
Man... I mostly am disagreeing with all these "rules.." hive 1 lerks ARE viable... they stop jp rush's/can stop jp rush's and take almost double the hits as a skulk. "armory humping" isnt bad.. if they are good.. i ushally use 200 bullets everytime i go out... and 250 if i'm in some type of lockdown/killing oc's/killing rsr nodes. Going gorg to fade.. when 2nd hive comes up.. or EVEN BEFORE isnt that bad... if your team has allowed it.. if they have jp's and you need to get that fade quickly then ask your team... its a strat which shouldnt be thrown out. ONLY thing i saw that made any sense was to listen to your commander when he says phase.... because when your commander says something such as phase here... then drop whatever and do it.

Gorge to fade is bad, and a bannable offense on the server I play on, but I can't remember the last game as aliens where I DIDN'T go lerk before the 2nd hive. Nearly everyone in the server knows me, so they don't complain, but if some gorge that's new to the server starts *****ing at me, he quickly shuts up when I completely shut down all marine expansion without dying once.

These are the 'unwritten rules,' I'm not even implying or inserting strategy into these. IE "Do not armory hump"

By the 'do not regorge after you get wasted' means simply, if you gorge in the beginning (down to 0 res), and get waxed. Once you respawn and save BACK UP to 13, don't go gorge again because it is a waste. Why is it a waste? Well, for one thing you'll be idling ONCE again until you get 22 res for a nozzle or 14 for xxx chamber.

If you get waxed, let your teammate, who probably has 23 res, gorge. He'll drop to 10 and it will take him a shorter amount of time to regain to 22, instead of your re-gorging arse who has to wait the full 22.

    - build more defense chambers then offense chambers!!!!

    that makes :

    - one defensechamber is never enough next to 3 or more offense chambers

this is not about healing the offense chambers faster, this is about healing urself (protecting urself as a gorge and ur teammates).

Im not saying u shoudnt start with an offensechamber (becuz u should) but an offensechamber doesnt really protect a gorge (ofcourse there are situations where it does and of course there are noob marines that will get distracted by it or cant aim at you, or at all)

a gorge + carapace + next to 2 or more defensechambers = gorge killed rine with healspray

Not always. For example, if you have JPer attacking your hives and you need to get fades ASAP to stop them (before you lose the game) having one person go gorge while 2nd hive is building to ensure that you get at least 1 fade is a GOOD idea. Better yet, have your fatty save HIS res and have someone ELSE take over the job of builiding while HE saves to go fade.

I agree, I usually do this myself since after the 2nd hive goes up, someone else jumps on gorge too (without fail). So I'm like, well...I'll be the first fade on the team then, cause being a gorge when you have two even after the 2nd hive is up is just annoying because your res is still very slow. So, after I OC/DC the new hive room while its building, get 3 MCs up, and web around a bit, I fade ASAP from gorge, and I'm usually the 1st or 2nd on the team, and it helps out a LOT.

I could see maybe a kick for gorging JUST to get enough res to fade, but if I'm the offical starting gorge, I'm probably going fade after that hive is up, and if you banned me, I'd laugh, and play elsewhere

having the fatty go fade first can be good - or it can suck since they'll often forget to put down Mov chambers before they evolve.

Yeah, thats the most annoying thing, I had this game once on nancy where I blocked hera reception and the other gorge blocked maint, the other gorge says to me "go fade when u can, i can handle this". So I go fade, start ripping their base apart with a lerk and skulks, the other gorge builds the last hive, and builds some dcs at maint and goes onos straight away without scs or mcs (everybody was fade by that time and one lerk) and nobody wanted to switch back to gorge becuz they would lose so much res and we needed the lerk badly...

Of course it was a bit stupid of us to not ask for mcs but I thought lets not push this gorge too far

    - Don't try anything new. If you don't know whether it will work, what's the point of trying?

    - Make helpful suggestions to the com such as, "OMG WTH R U DOING N00B COM TURRETS NOT UPGRADES".

    - Don't act in the best interests of your team. Making sure that your teammates get that extra .001 resource per six seconds is more important than, say, taking out a marine-inhabited hive as a lerk.

    - Shout your teammates down. Nothing promotes teamwork like telling someone how much they suck. Point to your vastly superior score to underscore your authority. If they don't realise that marines can access score by typing "/status" in console, well, they're obviously a n00b.

    - If you see anyone near the armoury, shout at them. Chances are that they're humping it. If they're not, then it's not your fault; they're just victims of the laws of chance.

    - You are never a n00b. Only other people can be n00bs. If someone calls you a n00b, that just means they're the n00b. Point this out to them in a frank and sincere manner.

    - By the same token, if you lose, it's not your fault. If you're a marine com, you lost because your team sucks. If you're a marine grunt, you lost because the com and/or your team sucks. Same for aliens, but replace "com" with "gorge"

    - Never go com. You might fail.

    - Most importantly, you have to believe that there are a set of unwritten rules which everyone must adhere to. If anyone breaks these rules, they're obviously a n00b.

Bizarrely, I don't agree with a lot of it.

The only one that made a lot of sense was Snidely's, and that's because it was 'extracting the urine'.

    Examples...

QUOTE

Don't hump the armory: You don't need ALL this ammo. If you'll keep spamming it me once I've run out, I'll stop it. Until then, watch me ride the armoury, baby.

QUOTE

Add: Do not lerk before second hive unless in special occasions. On the other hand, these are completely true.

QUOTE

When comm say "phase", go phase. Lerking before second hive means death unless the lerk is seriously good. Sure you can stop that pesky JP rush, but what happens after that? Another wave of JPers or if u're unlucky HAs. And if you have a team who lerks before the second hive basicly you just choked the gorge's res income....

Unless it's the "clan game" JPHAMGEE rush, where everything is recycled for maximum speed and equip amount.

Oh, and if you command, if you are trying a new tactic that you find unlikely will work, but want to do it anyway cause it would be damn fun, tell your team fully about it. If there are more "play for fun" than "play to win OMG SUYF COMM EJECT SO WE CAN JP HMG RUSH", do it.

    3 Sad but simple rules:

    1. Always join the team that has more clantags, it makes your game much more relaxing.
    2. When this team is full and there are lots of ppl in this join-team-zone use your mic to tell other ppl to go to the other team for a random reason. This makes your chances better for a relaxed game. If another guy sayd that faster you sucked in rule two. (hey other ppl invade countries for no reason)
    3. If you have no mic to tell other ppl "join the other team FFS" dont play ns.

I realize you mentioned "In thoughts of fades", but in terms of the pre-Fade game:

    * mines SHOULD be placed on the walls. *

It annoys me so much when i drop a pack of mines and some guy just drops them on the floor by the entrance... or by the spawns. Why give the skulks a chance to get into your base by jumping over the mines?... when you can stop them from getting in the door all together. Seal up the doors and let no skulks in at all... don't drop 'em all over the spawns and HOPE that they land on one. Its funny when I go to other servers and all they do is put them on the floor... i jump over the mines and rape their base.
