Don't know if this has been brought up a
how will the armor work? will 1 armor = 1 health or will it be different like in some mods and use rules abot how much damage goes to health and how much to armor or what? because like in CS people think (alot of ppl at least) that 1 health = 1 armor which simply is not true it protects slightly more than that and the rule is not as simple as 1 for 1

I can't say that I know how the armor does work now, or how it will work in the end. But more than likely, this hasn't been completely finalised, and so could still be subject to change. It is, after all, one of the many different blancing factors that will require some tooling around with.

As for CS, the protection you get from the armor is the same, no matter if you have 100 or 3. You either have it, or you don't.

I personally don't think that fits the atmosphere we all want from NS. However, like Greedo, I have no idea what the numbers are for NS armor.

If you have armor, damage should be absorbed by the armor, then the health. Otherwise thats some lame armor, just like CS's.

Wasteland HL had the best method for dealing with low health, after 20%, you start bleeding to death till you die. I think its like 1% every 2-3 seconds or so. Kept people from running around like in other HL mods with 1 health still killing people for very long. I know if I was at 1% health like any other human, I would most certainly be almost a soft and squishy pulp, how could you expect to pump out a round, let alone pump your own blood

i think this topic was dead, and if it wasnt it should be. wait until we get anything finalized about the armor.

why not have it like if you had 100 armor-points, it would reduce the damage by lets say 50% or something and when you have 50 armor-points left, it would reduce the dam for 25%?

Hehe, there is no such thing as a dead topic if it can be brought up by running a search.

Words to live by. Now let's beat this dead horse... or group it with other dead horses for increased speed.

*cough* back on topic *cough*

Armor is currently a hidden value, so it's hard to say how it works. The CS way of armor isn't necessarily bad. I mean, if I put 20 mac-10 rounds into your back, that armor is sufficiently weaker, however, has the strength of the front of the vest changed? I think not.

Hmmmmm... I wonder. Would armor really be any help to the marines? I mean, cmon, kevlar can stop bullets just fine, but acid will eat through it and claws will go right through it. Unless if you have some sort of metal body casing (i.e powered armor.) then maybe armor isn't anything but dead weight... unless the aliens start slinging round with you.

Whatever. I don't know what the armor system will be, but it's a safe bet it's STC.

I'm not sure where that acid reference came from... but I'm pretty sure that armor will reduce the amount of damage marines take from ranged weapons more than melee attacks. If an alien is that close, I'd recomment dropping all your weapons and trying for the 2 mile dash.

I just said acid because it's the first... uh... alien projectile to come to mind. I meant something like the Stinkclouds, or something...

And, yeah, I'm good at the 2 mile dash myself. I play SS2...

/me thinks about alien ranged weapons

Builder has gobs of... something... that he spits at you.
Flyer's got a built-in nailgun... armor piercing?
Blinky's got that thing on his shoulder; I forget what it shoots.
And Level5 has those tentacle thingies. Or something.

Built in nail gun . So that is how those four things from the hive stay attached to the roof so well.

Maybe in later versions different types of armor could be added that the marines could chose from. i.e. one type could protect against acid but not against claws or whatever. And if you could only have one kind of armor on, you would have to make choices based on the aliens class and stuff like that. I'm new here so I don't know if this has been discussed, but I think it would be cool.
• VangorVangor Join Date: 2002-05-22 Member: 655Members
Ehh, I think they want to shy away from a multi perspective marine area. Basically, different armor types would end up being the classes, as you wouldn't want a light machine gun when using this meant to stop claws armor, cause I'm sure it's going to be heavy and large, so you might as well get a heavy and large gun to go along with it. Probably most people will think like this, and soon there will be more people asking for classes. I would have my scientists working on light weight, high defensive armor for everyone in the squad, makes it a good balance, because right now, aliens will rip you to shreds if they are allowed that close of range, so choosing the bigger type of armor will basically slow you down, but give you a bit longer chance ot live, whereas aliens are already faster (from w hat I can tell) than marines, so it would be pointless basically. Trying to get at is, I'm sure people are thinking it, but I'm pretty sure few people are considering it.

Well, let's keep in mind that it isn't a matter of classes if you need to replace that equipment after you die. This might evolve into the true "social" experience: sweet-talking (read: brown-nosing) the commander for that really nice suit of powered armor.

How many resource points is you epuipment going to cost after you respwan? Will it signifigantly reduce the commander's resources?

Oh cmon... It's the military. EVERYTHING is gonna put a dent in some poor sucker's budget.

But it depends on the equipment I guess. At least, I HOPE it does, or is a shotgun as much as a nuke?
• HollowHollow Join Date: 2002-05-28 Member: 679Members
Is the nuke a weapon you are going to hold, or what?
• HollowHollow Join Date: 2002-05-28 Member: 679Members
Ooops, didn't mean to press post. The nuke, it isn't something you hold right? Because that would definetly NOT fit the game, having a BFG like weapon.

Everything costs points; re-equipping multiple marines, frequently, is going to get expensive. However, it's all being tweaked right now, so there's no short answer. Just trust that it will be the best design for gameplay.

As for the nuke - there are threads about the nuke in the Ideas forum; try to stay on topic.
