Will there be an ns manual yet?

Is there gonna be a players manual on NS.org yet, because you have seen how noobs usually d/l a game and just rush into it and then have "NO CLUE WHAT-SO-EVER" of what they have to do, hell, i've done that before, i made a total ### of myself on si, not knowing the differences in team colors, voting for the WRONG items, smaking my own scientist thinking they belonged to the enemy (though i still sometimes do it by accident ". so what's the answer, will there be an online manual yet?

I'm sure they will make a manual, releasing it about the same time as the beta.

Until then we just have to use the official NS FAQ, and the witty RR.org FAQ

Wouldn't mind if they were updated, though. Like what alien classes are there.

i know, i want to know if the alien attacks are to be selection by hud, or you have to press a button repeatedly or something, also how to build items with the builder class, how to "blink", how to evolve, how to use commander mode efficiently, and stuff like that

There will definitely be a manual, and I will push to have it released a few days before the mod itself (both as easy PR and as something to reduce the rather considerable learning curve for new commanders and alien players).

Sounds good to me. I'd love to write this, but I'm not sure I'll have time. I know we have some good writers around here that can help out, if we don't have time. Good idea!

I'd love to help write the manual. (:

the fact is with the complexity of the game even those of us that have been keeping up with this will most likely be confused when we first see the game. A manual is definitely in order, one like a RTS that gives the tech trees and stuff....

    *pulls out starcraft one

maybe not as extensive as that, maybe a CCRA style one....

    Me just rambling now.....

There will be one, no matter what. Don't worry...

More importantly, I want strategy guides showing up a few weeks after release. Tips for commander mode, the best combos for alien upgrades for certain player styles, maps of levels, the works. I won't take no for an answer!

Great can't wait. And u said manual before game, thats good. It'll give me a heads up so that I can lock myself in the computer room hitting refresh again and again while reading the NS manual while subsisting on microwavable products. I will be the first non-playtester to have NS. Ok probably not but still.

BTW are you going to release the server files early so that we have some servers to play on as soon as NS is released.

Who can say? Sounds like a good idea though, doesn't it?

I would sure hope flay releases the server files a few days early so we can get a few servers up and running!

I wonder, does anyone have a rough idea of how many servers are going to be up at release time? NS seems very popular...

To be honest, probably not a whole lot. Maybe about 100-200 in a best case scenario. But, hey, I said that about CS... doh!

Most of us are gonna be to busy trying to play the game rather than run servers for NS.

    Cross your fingers...

That is plently. S&I (my fav mod right now) is lucky if there are 3 servers with people in them at a time.

i dont think 100-200 in the beginning... i think just after it has been released the game will have a short of servers, and everyone is trying to join.. i hope monse will make a serverlist...

ill edit the manual for the sheer fact that i hurt someone every time i see a typo in an otherwise wonderful game/game document.

There will be better than a mere server list. Thanks to the foresight of Flayra, NS ships with:

    HL Protocol

As the playtesters can attest, it works very well; combine that with the servers we've spent time lining up, and there should be enough to go around.

    Ditto, Tycho; I'm a grammar/typo nazi.

Concerning strategy: Im sure that some of the playtesters will be able to give some strategis. Admittedly, we will have to wait until the last playtest build to make sure that they all still work after final changes are put in. I can't count the number of Mods Ive played where Ive read the manual and come off just knowing what I could have learned in a few seconds or figured out by presign keys on the key board. I vote "Yea" for a strategy guide "In Potentia" implanted into this Hypothetical Manual as soon as possible.
