Armory Humping...

Why do I see some people call people getting ammo from the armory, armory humpers? That's what the armory is for. And I don't know if anyone has noticed, but that ammo runs out fast, so it's good to stock up. I know people are going to flame me now, but I had to get that off my chest.

its when a commander is shouting an order, such as *get through the phase!* and they totally ignore him while getting ammo they will never use....thats the problem...

I find it's the most efficient to get my LMG ammo up to 50 | 100 and then, if there's time, get up to 10 | 20 on my pistol. The third clip for the LMG often makes a big difference for me. Think: one clip to get there, one clip there, one clip for running home if you have the chance.

It's definately a phrase that getting too much use IMO.

In one case I respawned, immediately phased to an area under attack. Used the 50 in my gun and the 50 spare and I was still alive . So I phase back to base to load up again, only for another place to come under attack. The commanders screaming "get there, get there, stop humping".
Well sorry dude, I aint goin anywhere with an empty gun.
And on a 10v10 server is he really gonna drop the ammo to everyone who wants it? Nope.
When guys use the armory though, you cant see how much they've got. Not everyone fills to max you know!

In fact no LMGer should fill to the max. Ever.
If an LMGer is goin on a special mission, he'll have the comms undivided attention for him to drop ammo.

MY extra 250 rounds are emotional security. MY extra 30 pistol rounds make me feel safe. I'll agree that for most situations you never need more than 150 extra, but there is the ever-popular Base Relocation manuver that uses ALL of those 250 rounds because there isnt an armory or comm for 400 yards in any direction. I never use all of my 250 rounds on a base defending job, but if i am going out there into the world, you bet your sw33t 4ss that i am taking as much as my narrow butt can carry.

The fact that you have to use the armoury more than once makes no sense to me anyway.

If you're picking up clips you should just use it once, grab a handful of them and run off. This delayed-50-bullets -at-a-time issue is so convoluted and artificial.

Incidentally, I find I often use 50 / 150 and am wishing I had more bullets...

The amount of ammo I get varies vastly. When you're up against uncarapaced skulks there's a good chance you'll burn off a lot of LMG and pistol ammo, so I usually get 20/150 or so. If the phase is under attack, I just jump in without anything extra. If I think I'll be trying to take down random offense chambers with my LMG, I'll get the full 250. If there are fades/ lerks about I usually just take what I spawn with. It doesn't take more than 4 seconds to get an extra LMG and pistol clip, so I usually get at least that much if there is even a small chance I might use it. I'll also fill up if there's nothing to do (waiting on teammates to spawn, or guarding base) If you've got all 250 of your reserve filled, you don't have to reload in base. (This really helps for GLs, too)

My personally preferred level is 150 reserve for lmg, 20 for pistol. If the commander tells me to go somewhere I'll skip ammo all together unless its obviously not a very time sensitive issue.

my game play is identical to yours - the best way to go. although i'm feeling a bit naked with the default LMG ammo..

Unless there is something important happening (Hive loacation under attack, phase, etc.) I always carry full ammo. On the small public servers I play on I sometimes end up defending a position by myself for a while before the comm gets a phase and tf up. So yes, unless it's an emergency, I carry full ammo. If it is an emergency it gets very annoying when the comm is screaming "GET THERE GET THERE THE PHASE IS ALMOST DOWN!" and I'm the only one who goes. It feels like I'm a pizza being delivered via phase gate ... Jus' my two cents.

Heh, I never carry full ammo. You just never get around to using 300 bullets, and if you do, you're probably shooting at walls. Even if for some crazy reason you use up all 300 bullets, ammo packs are 2 RP per 50 bullets. So just fill up to 50|150 and go.

Besides the fact that filling up to full ammo makes you run much slower. Don't have a link to the thread but use the search function. It was confirmed by PT's, too.

Why pick up half-mags? Why not grab a full magazine of ammo at a time?
Why is the armory full of HALF-full mags?

If it's not urgent, I get myself 50|150 and 10|30.
If it's somewhat urgent, I get myselg 50|75 and leave the pistol. (press use while you're running past)
If it's extremely urgent, I don't get ammo at all. I figure that I won't live to use it all, and if I do use it all, the armory is a phase away.
What a lot of people don't know is that the more ammo you have, the slower you run.

When things are quiet, feel free, take all the ammo you need.

But when a phase gate is under attack and you need people there QUICKLY, there is really nothing more anoying than seeing a marine humping the armoury.

Forget electrified turret factorys, i wish i could have an option to electrify the armoury at times

Hmmmm forget electrified TF, why not electrified armory instead?

I mainly take:
LMG: 50/150
Pistol 10/30

If time allows it, I take full LMG ammo. I usually tend to do a thing called AIMING and burst firing hehe *wink*

Haha an armoury that zaps the marines on order to stop humpers, good idea. I always go 50:150 and 10:20 unless its an emergency in which case I gate straight there and 9 times out of 10 get eaten before my first clip is spent. Its true the ammo makes a speed difference, 250 = laden marine.
• d0omied0omie Join Date: 2003-02-23 Member: 13877Members
I guess the armory is full of boxes of 50 rounds, and the marine carries 6 empty mags at respawn and just fills the mags up one box of rounds at a time. Ammo doesn't come in mags, you have to put it in manually!

I don't know if you ever do this but sometimes the comm just doesn't want to drop ammo. I sometimes take full ammo if nothing really important is going on. Thats 300 LMG bullets. That's a lot. Let's consider the friend that has 50/50 and you 50/250

Once you both used 100 rounds, he'll be empty and you 50/150. What I do in these cases is to pass him my (loaded) lmg and he gives me his empty one, so he'll have 50/0 and you 50/100.

Yes this is a VERY dangerous move, it can cost both of your lives (especially with the whacky weapon dropping) but it can also help you out.

Now I'm not saying I love armory humping (I rarely do so) but I'm saying... huh.. omg time to go to sleep D:

I was saying: a fully loaded guy can be useful sometimes to a team. Not often, but sometimes ^^

Fully loading up is good if you intend to be away from your base for a long time - if you're defending a location without a PG, or if you're doing "spec ops" type stuff. Usually I don't load up fully; 150|20 is good enough.

OK, sorry for being such a n00b, but would someone like to explain to me why one would stock up on pistol rounds? 10/10 sounds fine for emergency encounters, and use the time to stock 10/20 to get another LMG clip, right?

Thanks.

because the pistol rocks. There's nothing better than camping a hive and popping a full pistol mag into the gorge that comes poking his head around the corner - and nothing worse than to run out of pistol bullets when he comes back as an angry skulk >_<

Hmm

Imagine how nice it would be if you where to walk over a fallen LMG and you where to get all the ammo that was in that gun hehe. Or if a person drops a HMG, you get the HMG and all the ammo that was still left for spare (not the rounds that are already loaded).

I usually get 100 and 20.
If the comm tells ya to go thru the phase NOW, it likely means you will die before you have to reload.

Although, yeah, spawn ammo simply won't cut it at any other time.

Dead on accurate. Empties a clip faster than you can blink. Hoses down skulks with ease.

I love you, my pistol.

LMG: 50|100
Pistol: 10|30

I also occassionly drop my lmg and pick up someone else's if I've run out of ammo. This usually happens when I am in a group and one guy gets pwned while the rest of us fight of piles of skulks to secure the location.

I get 50|100 In meh LMG and leave the pistol alone, unless im doing some sneaky special ops stuff where I camp some where and pour ammo into a pile of oncoming skulks, then I max everything.
• Thanatos121Thanatos121 Join Date: 2002-12-17 Member: 10923Members
I agree with the 'armoury in moderation' viewpoint.

Seems almost everyone here has the same idea - grab a few extra clips when you've got the time...if the PG's under attack, don't bother since you won't survive to use 100+ rounds

If there's a strike team moving out, then I grab whatever I can before being left behind. If it's quiet, I may max out my ammo supply since there's nothing better to do.

I must say, that even with 150 LMG and 10 pistol rounds, I seldom run completely dry before dying.
