Sensory Makes Invisible Structures

discussion...
Hey, I think on voogru's server there already is this ability. That is, sensory chambers make buildings invisible within range of the sens chamber.

I haven't actually seen this myself and I was wondering for those of you who have, how do you like it? Has a gorge ever built a sens chamber first and seen it being used effectively?

And is there anyway a marine can detect the cloaked sens chamber other than bumping into it? And is the cloak like it is now, with only 90% on or is it fully cloaked?

And do aliens have to use their flashlight to see the buildings?

Alien "flashlight" (vision) makes them visible yes, if they chambers are shot they sortof turn partially visible, like the crappy cloaking the aliens currently have. The sensory chambers themselves actually are completely visible (last I checked) but people tend to drop multiple sensories so it'll take more than taking out one sensory to bring down the invisness. I wouldn't mind a half-invis sensory (like our current crappy cloaking), as long as the structures were fully cloaked. Heck I wouldn't mind fully visible as long as multiples hid each other till the last one went down

the main page says 1.1 sens chambers will be cloaked themselves.

Despite what some may believe, the new feature will not be a 1:1 copy of what Voogru did on his server. Any information that goes beyond what's on the newspage is most probably fake.

I'm assuming that building an obs near the stuctures will uncloak them. So that will be one possible counter and seeing as obs are so weak and easily taken out by an alert alien team.

will it be 90% cloacked like the aliens or 100%?

that what I want to know, and also since the observatory uncloaks aliens in range, will it uncloak a sensory in range?

I think this would be much more useful if it were possible to build chambers on cealings, so marines are less likely to find them. perhaps an anti-gravity chamber that lets you only build on cealings near-by

i think its an interesting idea & will be fun to work with / fight against

But you can already see it now can't you.. how many comedy moments of marines ploding along and then THUNK! they walk into some alien structure.

there were times when you just had to worry about walking into an invisible fade but no, now you might get swallowed by the hive ;-)

The few games i've played where as aliens we went for sensory first have been a good laugh... lets hope this idea works.

oh and they cloaked only dcs/ocs

oh and aliens could see cool orange kinda glowing thingy see thru buildings

The sensory will cloak people too, but do you have to be standing still?

Edit: I wrote a colloquial expression for the male genitals instead of "cloak" and was censored.

where did you get information that cloaking works on people too? it doesnt say this on the front page.

I didn't read it either. But that isn't too bad of an idea. It cloaks the hive and other structures, whats to stop it from cloaking a near by friendly.

Heck, why doesn't it just cloak the whole world...

*waits to hear an upgrade for the marines other than the pathetic elec TF* Pathetic compared to all the alien upgrades, that is.

(Your wonderful attitude and enthusiam amazes me... step carefully)

I'm most interested by the fact that it will cloak hives... will this cause a new covert hive approach?

IMO, a flame turret would be a better idea, or a flame upgrade.

My question is, when it cloaks a hive, does the cloaked hive have the 'empty hive spot' world-appearance? Ya know transparrent and non-animated) Or does it all just vanish and appear to be an empty spot (which would tip off the marines).

And, numbers-wise, it seems like 'rines are getting a big ol' nerf. It's pretty much a sure thing JPs are gonna be more expensive, along with anti-phase rush measures of some kind...

Thought: Wonder if they'll update the manual without telling anyone. Then someone goes into it - "New and improved for 1.3!".

Cloaking other structures with sens is a good idea to give players a better incentive to drop them, but I think having sens cloak themselves is a bit too good. Even if you assume that the sens cloak will be at the 90% transparancy, there are a lot of dark corners and odd places near hives in most maps that will make the sens a pain to find. IMHO, the sens should have the same functionality as the protoss arbitar: cloaks nearby friendlies, but remains visible and vulerable.

will scanning something temporarily remove cloaking? And if a marine is looking at cloaked buildings, will siege still hit them? Even though technically, he cant see them?

Marines enter an empty room and come under immediate attack.

    "WTH! com! sweep!"

Sensory sweep shows the marines are surrounded by cloaked OCs. An invisible Onos stomps the floor.

    "run!"
    "I cant!"

This will be so much fun!

yeah, i hope it cloaks aliens within range as well... just a short range, but should still cloak aliens close to it.

id like to see that it made the hive look like a dead hive too, thatd be a nice tactic to use. itd probably still make the hive noise though.

the sensory in 1.1 will be a little bit different than mine.

    Mine works like this:

    Cloaks only DC's and OC's
Scanning will remove cloak for 15 seconds
When they are damaged, they loose cloak then once they have like 20% health they are fully visible.
Sensory didnt cloak itself, this makes the gorge have to find a neat hiding spot to put the sensory chamber. I personally loved this effect.

Also, They would be cloaked to marines, but aliens would still see them as if they had the flashlight on, only they dont need the flasglight on.

Ill be able to take out all of the code for my sensory chambers in 1.1, only thing I will change is the sensory itself will not cloak, which is easy as pie

I thnk the Alens should be inviserble all the time when you get a Sensery chamber. It's th only way to make it better than carpoce. Maybe if the marines use flashlight on you, they can see you a bit. It would be a great combo with silence, cause then you'd be invisable and silent.

    Funny situation by me:
Marine: Wow, I'm just gonna go get the hive!
Alen: har ha ha, I am invisable and silent
    *marine dies*
    Alen: Har ha ha!

    That would kcik arse!
