NS on Steam?
Hey, soz if any1 has asked this already, but are we going to see Natural Selection on steam?

Steam is a good idea, but i really don't like it as all the servers on it lag real bad, and it takes ages to load, even on my pentium 4 2.8ghz machine

Us on www.halflifeforum.com want to know this as we're talkin about it

Might as well join if u want

I'm not using Steam, but I recall some newsflashs on RR.org according to which NS is already available over Steam as the only not-Valve mod out there.

Strangely enough Valve were testing Steam with CS 1.6 beta. Guess what ? They found out they grossly underestimated the amount of bandwidth they needed.

So next time they do a test, they'll be lots more bandwidth. And then there'll be a new problem

As to NS on Steam ? Not the foggiest.

    Here you are ...

QUOTE

After working with VALVe software, the NS Team can now announce that Natural Selection will be available on Steam! VALVe's Steam will allow easy and automatic updates for players with fast connections. For Steam-users, downloading patches, maps and new content will be a thing of the past.

It is important to note that Natural Selection will always be available in non-Steam form. Players will never have to pay for NS to play.

The Steam beta is publically available, and is currently allowing players to try Half-life, Day of Defeat, Counter-strike for free. Natural Selection is not available yet, but when it is, it will show up in Steam and you'll be able to play without even installing it.

The NS Team is excited about new gaming experiences possible with Steam technology, especially in creating a world that is constantly updated and network-aware...

    NS News from 09/03/02

So it says "will be available on Steam". I think it will be available as soon as Steam leaves its Beta Stages.(yes not just 1.6 is beta , even Steam itself is).
In my opinion Steam is very useful Tool. It works very well with my DSL connection and allows me to download new things as soon as they are released without going to the official page and download a patch. If it just would be a little faster i would totally stick to Steam.
So I'm very glad to see it will be available for Steam.

Yeah! Test that beta launcher program, using a beta program! Way to go development hell!

/me isn't fond of Valve, as if they hadn't produced HL, and that was putting together a lot of neat, already implemented ideas, they'd be nobody.

Steam had major bandwith problems due to the fact that it was leaked before people had a chance to stress the servers.

They had at one time a TERRABIT of info trying to get out the servers that wernt designed for that kind of stress. It really wasnt their fault that it all went down the tubes.

If NS went to Steam I would use that exclusively to play the game. There's too many improvements for me to go back. I don't even play CS 1.5 anymore. (haven't since 1.6beta came out) It's too bad NS will still be slowed down by regular patches.
