As some of you know, or did and have forgotten...
I havent been able to play NS for...around..2 months.

2 MONTHS! my last game was 1.04 beta H..yes..i have never played the final version of 1.04
I have started to forget some things about NS....And i fear i may be mistaken for...gasp..a N00B!

Why have i not played NS for this long?

Well..after a great game of 1.04 beta H, i connected to a different server and...OMG it doesnt recognise my WONID! repeat until insane....*PLEASE NOTE* this was <i>BEFORE</i> the WONID connectivity issues.
So dont link me to them won.lst files..they dont work for me.

And so i reinstalled HL...And if anyone has HL generations 3, you will know that the CD keys are on A SEPERATE PIECE OF PAPER!..no guesses to what happened....so now i couldnt even play HL...

But all is not lost...i have Ordered HL generations 3 from HMV! and it should be in my hands in the next couple of days....i feel so warm and fuzzy inside! sorry if this thread appears pointless, but i'm so excited!!!

The moral of the story is:

DONT OPEN TROGANS THAT STEAL YOUR WONID (gah! tons of *screensaver* files in my HL folders...)
DONT LOSE YOUR CD-KEY!

I have my registry entry in a piece of paper... I think everyone should take 2 minutes to write it...

If you don't know how to do it here's the way:

1. Start->Execute
2. type "regedit", press enter
3. go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Half-Life\Settings
4. Write down the entry named "Key"

If the CD key is erased on the CD box like mine, you just HAVE TO DO IT !! <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'>

I always write my cd keys right on the CD + a cd key on che CD case.
Slay developers for hiding the cd key in a small place on the second last side of a manual that is worht nothing.

Doesn't Sierra tech support give you a different ID (and remove the old one) if that happens and you ask them?

Oh, and I hope you cleaned up all those trojans, would be bad to get a new key and be ripped again.

Blueshift uses the same keys HL uses. I've played on borrowed (from a friend) cd-key for .. 3 years i think, and the cd-key error became a sad reality. I was searching HL copies like mad for the last year, then i noticed they still sell Blueshit. bought it. worked. me happy now <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'>
oh and the cd-key itself it glued to the inside of the plastic cd case. it'll look the same even 50 years from now.
if you ever lose your cd-key (or don't happen to have one in the first place like me), get Blueshift ! (btw it's a nice game too <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'>)

They ask you to pay the price of a new CD I think its $10 and you have to send the old CD back for some reason.

Ugh, you should see the diablo cases. Blizzard is so dumb to put the cd keys on a sticker ont he outside of the case. Within a week my cd key was smeared off. Luckily the people at EB arent too bright so i traded it in no problem <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'>
