Sounds Update

MarrMarr Join Date: 2002-12-11 Member: 10582Members
I just uploaded my most recent work on my sound packs. They are:

1) AmbiencePack.zip

Replaces all the ambient sounds in the game. Many are brand-new mixes by myself, others are the original sounds edited for less hiss and more creepiness. Size: 10 megs

2) caged_ambience.zip

Same as above, just replaces the ambient sounds for ns_caged. Size: 800k

3) SCMarineVox1_1.zip

Replaces *all* the marines' radio calls and commander orders with new sounds. The marines are from StarCraft, while the commander is my voice (heavily edited of course). Size: 4 megs

Grab 'em here:

Got any suggestions or requests? Let me know.

    Great work with that soundpack!!!
Just one tiny problem. When I'm marine and using these new sounds the game freezes up but if I'm alien, there is no problem.

    Ps. Are you russian?

lol i know this lockups..i got the same with the starcraft sounds... it looks like that some soundfiles can lock up halflifes sound system in a endless loop (i still can alt tab out to windows, and kill ns,so i think its just halflife that gets locked)... in the starcraft soundpack are 2 or3 sounds that are continiusly frezzing halflife when get played..and some sounds randomly .. only the radio commands :-/ ive deleted the starcraft pack and it works now.... ive tried soundcards from creative to terratec and gettin that problem always... it does not work with the onboard card either... i dont think its the chipset, because i know that problem from several other chipsets too... its much wheirder... its the graphics card and the memory timing :-/
ive turned off the agp 4x (to 2x),and reduced the aperture size to the smallest value... the memory timing to 100.ive reduced that way the crashes on 2 other computers too, i dont say thats the final solution.. maybe there are systems that are still locking up

i think halflife cant handle hardware well thats newer than itself lol <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> so ive simulated a slower system... now the starcraft sounds are working,ns wont lockup anymore... but it freezes sometimes for a half second the sound when i play those "bad" sounds

    Thanks for the feedback, everyone!

Sorry about making your system lock up. I've tested everything on two different systems and never had any problems. Of course, the total file size of my packs are bigger than the default sounds, so I suppose this kind of issue is possible.

For the commander sounds I was thinking of using Stukov (one of the UED admirals in BroodWar), but he didn't have any lines I could use. I ended up just trying to imitate his East European accent and mix in some bass-heavy sounds for that "battlecruiser" feel. I'm actually just a regular white guy from California, but I've done some acting and lived abroad for a while.

I've got another pack of just my voices for the marines as well. If anyone's interested I'll work on that next.

    Duuuude! That's amazing. I can't believe you faked that accent <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> Hahaha, I think some cooler alien hivesight sounds might be a good idea too <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Release your marine sounds too. I surely hope that they would not lock our systems. I have done finnish marine sounds. Making them was very easy. I hope that more people would make their soundpacks.
