Presenting MR-Leet|be open for new stuff
In the last 4 games I just met really intollerant, ignorant, and unflexible players.
You know what I mean if you build a sensory chamber by accident OR if there are 3 ppl going gorge at the same time for accident OR if there is just one guy voice commanding like ****.
Time to change something, to explain:::
Sometimes there is one guy, lets call him "MR-leet".
Mr-Leet has the following favours:
- He has voice and uses it massively to give orders because he plays NS much.
- If he joins aliens he is the first one that says "Ill go gorge".
- MR-Leet is a great rambo (theres nothing bad about this).
- There is one MR-leet on every third public game, some are "just fine" some are worse.
Nothing bad about this, but here are the bad behaviours about MR-leet.
- He believes that his strategy is the only way to win the game, and everyone who does not follow this strategy is a noob.
- He likes Walls of lame, he dislikes secret phasegates or spread outposts.
- He always places phasegates and turret factories at the same places (I mean there ate TONS of other good places for a TF, and it makes the aliens search).
- He always uses the same main strategies played on all Publics, even if an unusual strategy would be better.
- He just builds/wants defense, movement, sensory and he gets REALLY upset if someone does something different.
- He says "Rush them" at least once per minute = he likes the good old pushing-to-ddeath strategy, most times pushing without defense and brain.
- If there is a second gorge apart of him he tells him to ungorge OR he tells him what to do like he never played the game before allthough it is not neccesarry.
- If there are 3 gorges with 2 hives and tons of res he makes a successfull kick vote on the third gorge supported by his voice flames "noob (and such)", llthough 3 gorges are fine in this moment.
- Mr-leet thinks he knows how to play the game perfectly/the-right-way ignoring the fact that NOONE can know this now (I play on publics 24/7 for 4 months seeing new "freakin" stuff happening all the time) !
- He commands all over the complete map allthough he just knows whats going on in 1/2 of the map (or less).
- If something goes wrong he blames it on a gorge/comm or players that dont follow his orders, and not on the groups strategy all over.
- As marine MR-Leet gives the most commands (build here, give weapon there) even if he is not the commander.
- Mr-Leet Always yells for stuff, this goes worse when the team does not have the res for it because MR-leet does not tell to defend the resources (or if the res is urgently needed at another place he does not know of).
- MR-Leet goes Fade even if there are already 6 fades and no lerk to umbra - And he yells for weapons instead of for welders.
Allthough this would belong to strat forum here is some freaking new stuff for MR-leet`s:
- Having +1 gorge more at the game start (2-4 with one hive, 3-5 with 2 hives) is a great strategy as long as the gorges (and skulks around it) behave more like one mobile unit instread of diviging gorges from skulks. This means no skulk suicide rushes, skulks defend the gorge, gorge heals the skulks -> you need much less d-chambers and are way more flexible.
- Use Jetpackers, but not for healthspamming Hive suicide rushes, use them to build an outpost were no alien expects it at this moment.
- Movement AND defense chambers are not essential (ok one of them is , but not both together) , Just be open for new strategies when you have enough resources to try something new!!!
- One long game is not worse than 3 short games (I mean whats the point in saying "omg he did "insert unusual strategy here" , this game will take ages now")
- Umbra and Welders are almost essential for the team to win (no matter wich strategy) even if it does not kill enemies.
- Instead of giving direct orders just say what you have found out, let the team decide what to do.
Say "phasegate in hive" instread of "kil lthe phasegate in hive" ,
instead of "go mess hall now" try "If we dont get mess we should try something different or we loose" or "free popcorn in mess hall" ,
say "comm, I suggest upgrading ti HA" instead of "freaking comm, updrade stuff or we loost".

What do you mean. There are still tons. If there werent, do you think that NS would still have the player base it does? Try thinking of some. You just have to alter your strats. Of course will have to get closer for a siege attack, of course fades hafe to get in close now, of course...
The key to this game is creativity. Do what the opponent is not expecting. Gorge rush. LMG rush their main hive. That is what makes the game fun.
That's not being MR-leet but when I read bout the "you need umbra/welder" I thought bout that
T'was really annoying...
If he whines loudly about Sensory going up first (for example) I ramble on and on about how great it is. If Mr-Leet tells me to SUYF I keep babling, always positive, always upbeat. Never stooping to Mr-Leet's low brow narrow view. If anything I hope I'm at least canceling Mr-Leet out, letting the other quieter players know not everyone has their head up their backside.
Now I'll offset that by saying that I run into Mr-Leet pretty infrequently as I play only on servers that are very low ping to me (Seattle, Vancouver BC mainly) and most everyone playing NS on these servers are really nice, helpful, and fun to play with, even if they're losing.
Where to start here?
Let's say you are on hera. The game has just started. You are an alien. You say, "Team, be sure to patrol the room called 'processing'. It's the room that divides the datacore hive from the vent hive. If the marines get this room we lose." Now imagine that after saying this the rest of your team is bumbling around Marine Start or hera......or wherever. Now you see a yellow circle in processing so you investigate. WOW! Three or four marines. You ask for backup. Two, three minutes pass........you've died three or four times trying to clear the room..........still no help. You say, "Get over to processing, people." Now the marines have a phase, tf, turrets. You start to get increasingly mad because as "Mr. Leet" you try to share some information with the team and they don't even give you the time of day. So, now as your team is talking about how they "ate a resource tower", "Hey, I got a turret at holoroom", or "got the observatory" you are alone trying to accomplish the only important task at this point (besides the gorge). This is usually the point at which I start getting really ****. The reason is because I tried to share my knowledge (from experience) with a bunch of deaf ears. I even type this kind of stuff right after I say it to make sure that everyone knows what to do. So now I have to sit around while the Marines fully upgrade and get every resource tower before they come finish us off (hopefully they don't want to toy with us and just spawn camp). No, not everybody will F4 at this point either.
.....................Maybe Mr.Leet was right.
No seriously, If the team isnt working together on the task in hand, the chances of winning, and being satisfied with the round will be slim to none.
It's not even that these so-called 'only way to win' strategies are even guarantees of a win. Come to Nano or FoR or Donce, try out your 'JP rush' against my team, or your 'build DC first'. We'll atomize you, and that's just guys who pub together infrequently. Because they try new things and all the stick in the muds can't handle the change. The same way some of them will stop playing NS 1.1 when it comes out because they can't handle that change either.
I like your take on things Ollj. Very much indeed.
I would love to see how good you are in the chair MonsE
And yes, winning isnt everything...its only a part of the experience...what is important is that you and your team enjoy yourselves and learn from the experience.
the problem with mr.leet is his ego. They never can take a loss lightly, its always his pride that goes with it or something. I love it when they blame their team in the last 5 minutes.
i also have a big problem with commanders who quit and blame their team and commanders who dont give waypoints. (these are usually the same commanders )
This leads to one of us usually using voice comm allot to comunicate to the other who is most likely gorging/comming. I guess you would consider us "Leet" but I don't do it to other coms, only my brother because he/I expect me/him to be his ground support/commander.
Of all the marine games I have won, the majority have been those that have a confident marine getting troups togehter and organizing everything. It is almost bennificial in most games to have a designated "caller" on the ground so that there is not to much confusion.
I do realize that this is probably not what you were refering to as "Mr-Leet" but just thought I would throw this out as a possiblity to what you might encounter.
Such a "double team" can be annoying in voice comm, but its unbeatable and has great coordination in it (even if it just works for itself).
But that's not even the point. The point is I care about winning. And chances are you care about winning too. If people actually didn't care about winning/losing, they'd do whatever their heart desired, including rambo-ing, letting cheats go rampant, jumping into the comm chair and dropping yourself a shotgun and jumping out, going lerk even when the gorge is strapped for resources, etc... It'd basically turn into one big team deathmatch if the game was "just for fun." Obviously, by playing as a team and playing roles in securing resources/hives, harassing enemy resource towres, and locking down certain areas, you ensure your team has a maximized chance of winning. Surely you cannot expect the whole reason I (or anyone for that matter) sit in Eclipse Command waiting 5 minutes doing nothing to let the resource build up so that a phase gate connection can be established is purely for fun. It's tedious, and something I don't like doing, but it's what's necessary for my team to win. And for this very same reason, I neither tolerate cheating nor bug/map exploiting. Otherwise if this whole thing was "just for fun," I couldn't possibly care.
Kharaa team: OMG! HE WENT GORGE! N00B!
Admin: Kick him?
One Kharaa player: YES!
*NSPlayer has been kicked*
I thought that was so pathetic. I really yelled at them for doing it, and I think few of them did regret kicking him in the end. Ns community can not grow if we don't help new players and tell them what to do, instead of just kicking and screaming at them. I doubt if that player is ever going to try ns again.
*laughs* I was about to say the same thing. But don't get me wrong, I like zippy.
hehe
And I often say stuff like "get to feedwater !" even when I KNOW there are people who are much better on my team..
hehe
I try to stick to the "They're attacking at feedwater aproach though"..
Only yell when noone shows up..
I gotta be a real pain in the **** sometimes
hehe
Agreed!

When you described mr-leet at the beginning, I thought it could be me. But as soon as you threw in WOLs and TFs and PGs then I KNEW you were describing nubs
People who think they know everything..
Oh.. And we have a winner for LONGEST QUOTE EVER !
I was like "heyyy, Monseiur!!! You are my hero!" At that point he said "heh" and owned me hardcore as a Lerk. I crapped my pants at the time because noone else knew how to Lerk well yet (NS being so new). I was like "OMG YOU ARE BEST LERK EVER." I think he said "heh" again or something and continued to kill my ****. It was fun
Ok a few things.
1) your little definition is more like a blur between 2 different kind of people. Although they are similar.
First you have what i would call the clanner. He has a bunch of these traits for obvious reasons. He does know the best current strats (depending what clan he is in of course) so he can complain when people are being stupid. He can help organize the team. There is nothing wrong with 1 person trying to help the team win.
Secondly, you have the a-hole. This could also be a clanner that has "gone bad." They ahve the worst attitudes in the game. They blame everyone else. It's never their fault. They spam and cause problems were they arent.
*edit* upon further reading and consideration i have added a 3rd class. The noob. WOL and the PG. Thats just noob play. You never see that in clan games at all. Why is that? Because they suck.
Sometimes the lines between these 2 group of people can get close or even become blured.
I play in 1 pub server pretty much. You could say that this server has about 20 mr-leets, as you put it, playing at any given time. You seem to find them stubborn and inconsiderate. But they are all clanners. We get along. When 1 person takes charge we all listen because we all know he can take charge and lead us to victory. When 1 person starts ordering you around THAT IS NOT A PROBLEM. You can win very easily. In fact it might be the cause of you winning. Now if an a-hole jumps in game then everyone has a right to complain. Since he seems to have a main agenda to just annoy everyone and blame everyone.
Their is nothing wrong with mr-leets the majority of the time. Sure you get the a-hole variety alot but from personal experience the clanner variety is an awsome group of people to play with. They tend to move the game along and can really help a team dominate through strategy and teamwork. Your inital post here shows that you have no distinction between these 2 classes of player. You blur what is a good community player and a bad player into 1 general class. Just because 1 has good skill and is a good player with the team and the other is an a-hole regardless of skill does not mean you should blur them together. The a-hole is just the poser trying to run around and act like he is better than everyone else.
also i would like to add about this double gorge stuff. It's a well known fact that 2 gorges at the beginning of the game is a detriment to the team. Why else is flayra making 1.1 allow for double gorging to be effective?? It might just be me but there is an obvious reason for that.
Also, as it is in pub games aliens win 70-80% of the time. No that isn't some random guess. It's called psychostats. It tells you how often the aliens win on any given map. The aliens win a horrendous amount of games in pubs. So why would you ever need to double gorge in a pub.
Also keep in mind im not advocating kicks because someone is double gorging. Yes it can work, but no its not more effective. The resource model can't support double gorges as well as a single gorge. ESPECIALLY in pub games.
a few things you should take into consideration:
*- The comm IS god, following his orders WILL=victory if you ALL follow them EXACTLY ALLWAYS(and provided your comm is
halfway decent)
*- The Gorge should be a skilled player who knows what hes doing OR SHOULD BE WILLING TO TAKE ADVICE IF NOT SKILLED
*- The gorge who IS skilled ought to be listened to, after all, he is the one who plops the dc's
*- Aliens work best when the gorge has a field lieutenant who tells him whats goin on at the front, this guy also aught
to know whats up... He should be responsible for "hive is cleared" "its safe to go that way" DONT COME THIS WAY!~!!"
No, it's just there are far to many Mr-Leet's, and even more people with closed minds to new things.

Yes. There's a big difference between kicking someone who went double gorge by accident, and someone who insists on going gorge multiple times and running around being useless, despite pleas from the team to either come over here and learn how to build resource towers or to get off gorge.
I have no qualms with votekicking people who deliberately sabotage their team - and a newbie who goes gorge and then refuses to take advice is doing just that.
Yeah I had a game where some immature individual recycled the IPs and then jumped out of the command chair.
Oh wait. That was YOU on voogru's server last night.
Hypocrite.

Savant
