Weird Spot In Eclipse

Is this intended or a bug?
On ns_eclipse, if you take a stroll into Computer Core, you'll see over toward the entrance coming from Eclipse Comm an archway with tall computer pillars on either side (the last archway you go under before coming into the lower end of the room).

One of these pillars is hollow, this is well known. But did you know that if you climb up to the top of the pillar, staying on the side closest to the hive, there's a ledge or something up there?

I've sat on it and looked down, there isn't anything that appears to be holding you up. Is this a map bug or some strange feature?

As a side note, I was playing a game today where the marines had locked down all our hives with siege farms outside. I skulked my way into this spot, went gorg, and then built up to 100 res while the marines all went after Eclipse.

Needless to say, they were pleasantly surprised when Fades started rushing out of our base

If you stand at the bottom of that hollow pillar and look up u can just about see the ledge - however for some reason you can't see it when you are standing on it, perhaps so you can see out of the pillar and hide at the same time...

must be a map bug. i've seen another map bug; in waste handling near the ceiling there are beams that have one sided surfaces.

Oficial ns maps are full of small bugs.
most of them were released under time pressure.
That some parts of the model are outside of the own hull casues a lot of bugs (see in the void as onos, shoot trhough walls as dafe)
but this one is no bug. Its just an entitie with the flag (invisible from top down) made for a camping skulk and the commander.

why should it be a bug? Its a perfect hiding place, u can look beneath u but they cant see u

missing texture. it's like models.. there's a texture on only one side but the other side is see-thru. If you want to know, tanith also has missing textures. you all know that sort of catwalk outside of rine start. You cant see up but you can see down of the bottom. Which means a good placed skulk could parasite the whole marine team when they are leaving without them even noticing a skulk. Or by the time they see you your whole team can see them.

    It's quite handy, I doubt it's a map bug. It's too, sneaky

its not a map bug or missing texture. its just so that the commander can see stuff under it and not build on top of the ledge.

yea its something the mappers have to put in maps when they have two levels in a room. speaking of bugs, on caged theres a pretty bad one where you can just walk right outside the map. You see the texture but when you wlk to it theres no wall and just keep going.

KungFuSquirrel (the mapper who made eclipse) said it was a bug. Still I think it's a good place to hide, but that's technically exploiting

What the HELL are you talking about?

When I copied the area across, I copied the overlay brush and not the solid brush behind it. There is supposed to be no hole; there is supposed to be no ledge... And for the love of god, there's not supposed to be floating non-solid glowing lights in the middle of thin air! I didn't notice this before final submission for a couple reasons. 1) the area behind is dark enough that at first glance the glows appear to be part of a proper overlay and 2) the overlay brush in WC gave the illusion of a solid area behind it.

Translation: it's a bug, and it's been fixed in Eclipse 1.1.

Personally, I kind of liked it as a hiding spot, but I'll bow to KFS on this one. (:

I might try to sneak a couple other little hiding spots in some of the hives if I can...

Stand at the resource node in the Computer Core hive, and face the Hive. Walk down the ramp and turn right as if to head for the exit. On either side, in front of you, are two tall electronic panels, black and green and glowing. The one on the left (on the south wall of the hive) can be walked through.

KungFuSquirrel, maybe you can keep that as a hiding place but make it more realistic. like pretend it's a computer that has been gutted out so make a big hole in it and put that transparent texture of those hanging cables and wires and pipes over it and maybe some transparent infestation texture over the whole thing to make the hole less obvious and have some sparks shooting out from places to make it look like its like that coz it was damaged. what do you think?
