Jetpacks+ha+phases

Sudden attacks of death!
People say HA is useless because its so slow, which allows the aliens to prepare a LOT beforehand when they see the HA comming to a hive area. Instead of marching somewhere try getting jetpacks AND HA, have the jetpacker find a phase-able spot near a hive, set one up and phase thru a full squad of death, even if the phase dies (or you recycle it) the HA will take out the hive if they know to weld, etc.

that woud be a good idea...if that much res were available.

If I remember correctly this is something Flay used to do in Pt'ing whilst comming...

    |ds|, it's a small amount of res to spend on a PG to avoid x number of WOLs, avoid tipping the alien off of your advance and also avoid the time spent marching through all those WOLs.

If you mean if that much res was available to get HA, then thats a silly arguement against the tactic as obviously Khaim is assuming there is enough res for HA, and jetpacks are peanuts.

aff, if you already have HA, a jetpack and the research combined are less then another HA and welder, not including an HMG.

We did that today. Don't remember the map name (hives: satellite, waste, fusion), but aliens had satellite and fusion and we had waste.

One JP'er flyed in satellite hive and landed up there on that small platform which is opposite of that hive. He builded pg there and we all went trought it. Fades were destroying that double res point and they didn't know that we were in satellite. Three HA/HMG and that jetpacker started to shoot the hive at the same time and it died very quickly. They were like WTH?, how did the whole marine team get in there without destroying those WOL's

For the anal retentive of you keeping track at home, the map with Fusion/Waste/Sattelite is ns_tanith.

Hmm...this could be a very good idea, bu t you'd need veyr competent JPers whoca ng et past WOLs AND evade all aliens. In other words, MT might be necessary for this...

I was the one who jetpaked phased

In which case it was in fact the competence or deficiency of the ha squad that came through that determined the game.

Big gun syndrome is a big no no.

So it is quite viable, assuming your people know what they are doing, what they know > what aliens know

...WoLs are very easy to avoid with a JP, so long as the Kharaa haven't gotten two hives yet. Seeing as we're talking a combined JP/HA rush, I'll assume they do. In this case, the best possible counter would be for him to have a welder out in front of him, but it's unlikely he'd get all webs before colliding with them, and the wall would score another free kill. Uhm. Additionally, a good combat-gorge can web a JPer while he's in flight, making his mobility utterly useless. The only way I could really see this strategy working is on levels with an excellent vent structure (such as caged or nancy) and some clear rooms near the hive...

How about this? Send JPers straight into the hive, get them behind a structure, throw down a phase, have your HAs stay near phasegates and port through as soon as the hive one goes up. Quick and effective, considering most gorges don't place OCs directly under the hive, or in all parts of the hiveroom (like refinery. There's no freakin way to guard all entrances to that hive. XD)

Have them fly into the hive and build A PG? Umm...the PG would nvreer go up before your marines got killed.

yah... also you said yourself they would get webbed/killed trying to get near a hive room, tell me then how they get into one without getting webbed/killed...

Arm em with welders and have them entering the hive firing the welders. Seems to be the only way to get your JP's into a hive without gauranteed web death. I think the strat is smart though. The jp's aren't there for getting the hive, they are the builders and the HA's are the insertion team. I think this strat is just good end-game playing.

this is an excellent strat for a map like nancy - where if you can get access to one vent you effectivly have access to the entire space ship, expecially hives. Sneak in there, plonk down a PG and in comes your friendly neigbourhood HA squad of doom.

The key of course is making sure the JPer has an excellent knowledge of the map to make their way around - expecially in the vents where it is fairly easy to get disoriented. A way point from the comm there would be very helpful actally.
