Does Investation Move?

The question is, if Investation moves and how, or if its just too static/strong to move.

I think about3 kinds of movements:
- Animated texture movement<a href='http://maps.redeemedsoft.com/portfolio/textures.html' target='_blank'>.</a>
<img src='http://maps.redeemedsoft.com/portfolio/textures/yama-blob2.gif' border='0' alt='user posted image'><img src='http://maps.redeemedsoft.com/portfolio/textures/yama-blob.gif' border='0' alt='user posted image'>
- Being a toggleable texture (investation comes and goes triggered by events)
- Being a "!"-Water texture.
(The texture just gets the "!" and moves like flat water)

Just be sure to credit me when you use those pulsating infestation textures. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

There's another one in the same series which has just one pulsing effect in the center, but is more pronounced. I'll see about releasing that WAD again.

Where does everyone get all these textures? i'd love to credit everyone for textures, only i have no textures to credit for!
    What a dilemma, eh?

Nice texture... but when it pops up, it looks like it's blurred.. and it feels like it's moving just like water which... frankly.. makes me nocious just looking at it!

Try and make things on the texture that look like veins and/or other stuff move instead of a whole section.
    Willl make it more realistic.

The right texture was meant to be used on portruding blobs on a wall/ceiling/floor, not as wallpaper to be slapped around the level. When applied and centered on a 128x128 blob it makes it look like the thing is pulsating, like a beating heart or organ. The left texture was an experiment but wasn't as successful.

Making the veins pulsate is beyond my ability at the moment, but you're welcome to modify the existing infestation texture to achieve that effect. I doubt the devs would mind.

if you make them into veins or something that woulld be amazing.... walking down a corridor... and the walls start pulsating. that would be a good way of knowing when a hive is up nearby, that the infestation would start pulsating... cooool

Can someone from dev Team or with more than 1000 posts say if he yould like "pulsating veins" or not?

I was thinking of something like a moving platform that is 1 unit in depth and 1 unit off the wall. It could very slowly creep along the wall until it reached somepoint at which it stops.

Does it really matter what a member of the dev team says?
Surely something that managed to improve the visual effects of the map with little hit on performance would be welcomed with open arms. I can not foresee anyone being "against" pulsating vein textures, and you are freely allowed to modify NS textures for use in NS maps.
To request a member of the dev team reply to any post requesting they do is just a bit silly, I'd think. They're busy people, and you hardly need a go-ahead from one of them to do something different and creative.

Do what you want with them, really. Personally, though, I don't think it's worth the extra texture memory for the extra frames, and I wasn't a huge fan of the in-game effect (no offense Yama).

<b>KFS:</b> Maybe sprites could be used?

Sprites are worse for r_speeds than animated textures.
And ns needs every single entity, the less are in the map, the better.
Aligned sprites are just an alternative on (aplha)-transparent investation, you can walk trough, and if your room has too high r_speeds.

im trying vein amimations with kais power goo.
timing is difficuld but looks really organic.

Can someone convert <a href='http://www.df5jz.de/Ollj/investgoo.zip' target='_blank'>this test avi of animated investation</a> into 10 bitmaps?
