Kinda looks like ours doesn't it? Mabye we inspired them, I guess that's a good thing. I'll proably be making a map for this game

Yep. Just try to tread lightly in their forums - they used get really upset at the mention of NS until I stopped in and talked to them for awhile.

/me shudders at the sound of the word Paroxysm and forums in the same sentence.
Well, I am not looking forward to it one bit, after what they said to me (I didnt even mention NS, and they didn't know I was related to it). It was not a nice experience at all

On the pistols: Their pistol came out first, but I didn't see it until after I had developed ours . . so they definitely didn't influence each other. Of course, the similarities pretty much begin and end with the gigantic muzzle break in the front, and that was hardly a novel concept on either side (see: Robocop )

Hmmm . . . serves as a striking metaphor for the two mods.

Heh. I'll stick to NS...

There was another mod announced on PHL a day or two ago. Their slogan (or whatever you want to call it) is "Get ready to morph..."

Sound familiar?

They also have a description describing how you play as characters who are able to "morph" up to higher classes, and they plan to introduce an RTS type element to the game.

...

I had to smile.

Ken: My only fear is that people will play that instead of NS, and may even think NS is just a clone of that game

I don't think that people will play one instead of the other . . . I know a lot of people (myself included) who play RTCW, Medal of Honor, and DoD . . and those are a Hell of a lot more similar than Paroxysm and NS.

Plus, (well, if you play by the rules) you have to PURCHASE two of those titles . . .

Hey, we have our loyal clan, they probably have theirs. And if all goes well, we may see these two send good ideas to each other and voila bigger and better things. Course, i'm a little partial to NS... and you guys seem further along...

I can remember a discussion about Paroxsysm when it was announced (NS had already been around some time by then).

I decided to take another look at it when I saw this thread - and now, after wading through ankledeep l33t speech, looking at questionless good but standard weapon - and alienmodels, I return back here, look at our community, smile, wish Parox good luck, and decide to never leave NS.org again.

I really don't like their alien designs, I already mentioned it in IRC (even with some teammebers present ) it just doesb't appeal to me, I'll stick to NS than you

After that PHL post about Paroxysm, I went to their site and checked it out. The mod looked neat, but it was difficult to find out much about it. I didn't even know it was a co-op mod until I searched around for a while.

Then I went to the forums.

After looking through about 10 threads, I didn't see one meaningful discussion. Swearing was rampant, and even the moderators were behaving in a very juvenile way.

Thank god for Molec, Spyder, and Greedo.

I seriously think Paroxysm is gonna be fun, but not a competitor for NS at all.

First, check out the alien models. The 2d art is gorgeous, but each one has like 12 polygons making up it's whole body! Compare it to a Behemoth model. See what I mean?

Then look at the Alien description. I don't know about what you guys think, but it seems to me that a lot of the critters in their game will just be reskinned Half Life monsters! L-A-M-E.

Some aspects of the game look promising. Map screen shots and weapon shots looked pretty impressive. But really, that mod is not gonna be anywhere near the standard of quality NS will be. It'll basically just be a glorified Sven Co-op (which I admit is an awesome game).

We've got nothing to worry about, guys. : )

Of course the quality of the game isn't as high as NS, but the game is really cool. I've played the developers release (for developers only), and the fun factor is extremely high. As for the forums, BoZmAn20 speaks the truth. Almost the entire dev team is composed of a bunch of childish people, but they are skilled. Hard to work with, but skilled.
Some of the guys (perticularily Banzai) get really ###### whenver NS is mentioned, but I've been trying to cool them off for the past few days. Maybe they will one day respect NS. Maybe

Banzai is looking to take the NS modelling help job. So he can't dislike NS that much.

Actually...

I read his post on the Paroxysm forums. In a topic where a bunch of guys droned on about how NS was crap, he said "Dear god, ns asked me to model for them. What should I do?!!?!?". Many replies came stating "Tell them to shove it up their ###" and so forth, and he tended to agree with most of those answers.

Dear me, such blind and rampant hate, when most of it is so motiveless! Theres no reason for Paroxysm to fear NS, nor vide versa, they're two completely different game types (according to Nemesis Zero). It seems a little unjust that people who play Paroxysm shall be taught to blindly hate NS (by the dev. team) without first experiencing it for themselves. What a pity. But seriously though, I took one look at their alien models and I can honestly they they don't compare. But with an open mind I shall look forward to their first release.

if paroxysm is a co-op mod, which most of us think/believe it is... then what's all this hub-bub about? We're a teamplay they're co-op. Won't even be competing against each other for the same audiences in general. Goodness...

I hate blind hatred

but some of it may be jusified becuase of the closeness of the games. Maybe we did some stuff that made them have to change their plans or something.......

Poeple arent scared/annoyed of their game. It is the people behind it, and the effort put forth in some sareas that people are disgusted by. Personally, I went to their forums a couple times because I was interested, for making a suggestion on a model they made, I was flamed to heck and back

talk about over-zealous pride. eh, whatever. Good ol NS with stay with us. I'd hate to see this go into a NS vs. Paroxysm war though. That would be bad, very bad.
• TzarconTzarcon Join Date: 2002-02-28 Member: 259Members
hmm. I've been talking to the team leaders. All this stuff about them not liking NS is apparently myth. All 3 of the guys I talked to love NS. The guy that was causing the little commotion said he was rather jelous. The other forum guys seem to like NS. Ah well, continue to live peacefully, I say
