I just thought of this. All of the current ns maps take place in some kind of human base. Would it be a good idea to make a map that takes place on the alien homeworld or something of that sort?
how are marines supposed to win a fight on the alien homeworld? it would fail like the Klendathu invasion in Starship Troopers <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
what about a planet with a crashed predator-starship (invaded by aliens of course)? <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
I was thinking that the marine start on the alien world could be like a crashed support ship. Why do you think the marines would never win on an alien planet?

wouldnt make much sense imo ....and why do aliens need to build hives on their homeworld? there sould already be a lot of hives %)
How about instead of an alien homeworld, make it just a normal deep-space planet. A small group of Kharra arrived on the planet for possible infestation. At about the same time, the TSA ship was scanning the planet for possible colonization or as a deep-space outpost planet when it crashed. This way, there aren't tons of aliens, and the storyline is still appealing and makes sense.

Surely this could simply be the first wave of an invasion by humans of the alien homeworld, with similar attacks occuring in various places all over the alien super-nest. The aliens, used to having their world to themselves, and crushing all lifeforms outside of their territory, are completely unprepared for the attack, and therefore have to build up their own defences as multiple "hit squads" of humans land.
You've all read Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card, right? (No excuses.)
They are fighting an alien menace. In one instance, they liberate a hollowed asteroid that was carved by the aliens. You could use the same premise to make a cavernlike level (no right angles.) The aliens could have recently aquired the asteroid before you found it and started clearing it out. Or maybe you flushed it out, but a little spark of alien goo survived and eventually re-hived.
I was actually wondering about this the other day too.
I also wonder why there aren't more 'famous' maps coming through. I haven't seen anything from aliens, star wars, star trek, marathon, event horizon, hell -- even abyss or 2001. If you get me started on books...
I think it would be kewl to see a map within an asteroid. Have small hollowed out tunnels ment for skulks that the humans could use, as well as gorgys and lerks. sorta like in starshiptroopers with those tunnels. And if you saw the computerized cartoon fo sst, the tunnels look neat and stuff. One a huge tunneling alien tunneled a whole under their base undetected and broke a hole under it in a main room, and died. Then aall of these little alien things rushed out invading the place.

The mapping group i'm involved with are looking for a new map to build, and this is different enough to be interesting.
