<div class="IPBDescription">Ns_nancy and Ns_lost are fast</div> As some forum users know I am having really bad fps problems.
I have now discovered that Ns_nancy and ns_lost work perfectly. There is no graphics lag and I can play really well. Do these map consume less CPU / memory or is there some other reason that they work and the other maps don't?
For you info (and I am still open to tips) I have tried the following to play the other maps with a decent fps but with no joy:
Defragged HD
Set RAM to 128 as I am using WIN 98SE
Entered loads of CPU saving console commands
Disabled all non vital windows and NS components
Used a new driver for my Matrox G450
Only connected to servers with a ping of under 50
Disabled all non essential hardware items
If you could help please let me know.
Thanks
Ed

maybe its because my comp sucks <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
oh yea and what are your system specs. maybe i could help u out
i think the maps are something like this in order of fastest to slowest
nancy
eclipse
caged
tanith
nothing
bast
hera
althou the only ones i'm sure of are nancy, bast and hera. The others may be mixed around a bit. And i havn't played lost yet so can't rank that one. Also games tend to lag more depending on how long they have been goin on, because when you build you add more entities which gives server more things to track.
Mine is a PII 400 mhz with 384 Ram and a Matrox G450 graphics card. NS at one stage worked 100% OK on all maps (no slow graphics) and now it does not work on any map apart from nancy and lost.

hmmm we have the same processors, and your video card is about the same as mine.
the only thing different is that i have 128 MB more ram. are you running at 640x480 resolution? hmmm maybe you have your mic enabled? like mine. oh yea what sound card you have?
I have disabled my mic but have left "hear" voice comm enabled, I'm not sure if this affects graphics speed but I find it useful to hear the voice comms.
I have 2 soundcards a Yamaha sw1000xg and dsp factory. I only now use one of them as it produces ledd IRQ stress.
Any other ideas?

click Start > Run > type in dxdiag > flip over to the sound tab and someone around the bottom there is a slider for your sound level. Move it all the way to the right. Hope this works. If it doesnt sorry. I know how you feel.
While nancy and cage may not be any smaller than other maps, they may be different in how many polys are onscreen at once. That is what is the major determining factor in how fast your game runs. And there's no way you can scale back the polys shown in the map, at least not for Half-Life.
No idea about the mic's though. Try DISABLING eax? I was having horrible horrible sound problems w/ HL till I disabled that...
