In my grand tradition of being an overly-enthusiastic Matrix and Animatrix fan of the Off-Topic forums, I bring you Program, the second downloadable Animatrix episode.
If you don't feel like streaming the movie, here's the link to the highest resolution available, a ~150 meg QuickTime format movie: Yes, here. Click. You know, that thing you do with a mouse? Good.

BTY. Have any of you seen the commercial for the new Steven King movie "DreamCatcher", I wasn't going to go see it untill I saw the commerical that said that there was going to be a short Matrix film that ties the 1 and second movies together at the end of DreamCatcher. So now I have to go see it.
This is a funny thing to say since you can't describe anime just as 'anime'. Sure, many of the flicks are done with a certain style, but the stories and scenarios are just as diverse as in live-action films.
Besides, The Matrix movies have LOADS of anime influences.

I agree with KarriN that there are many different styles and story types generalized as "anime." Before seeing all 3 DVD's of The Vision of Escaflowne, I though all anime could be compared to the childish series' like DragonBallZ, YuGiOh and Pokemon that have become too mainstream in the US. These attempts at anime aren't of near the artistic and storytelling quality of a number of other anime series; I'd list good ones, but if I did I'd have loads of forumgoers complaining "Hey, you missed this one!"
But please realize that while the different episodes of the Animatrix may have direct influence by the Wachowski brothers themselves (original writers/directors of the Matrix, for the uninformed), each of these shorts are done by completely different people, with completely different artistic styles. The two episodes available for download so far have a surprizing amount of computer-generated content edited to look more hand-drawn and maintain seamlessness.
The "Final Flight of the Osiris" episode you have stated will be bundled with "Dreamcatcher" is done with the same techniques and by the same people who made the totally-computer-generated "Final Fantasy" movie. Yes, it will tie into the second "official" Matrix movie more tightly than some of these other episodes, and I have to criticize this latest one for being too short to have as much plot as I would've liked. But the 1st one released, "The Second Renaissance," is our first direct glimpse at pre-Matrix events that led up to the war with the machines.
It suffers from exactly the same faults as Blood. Bad dubbing, lack of story, trite and useless dialaugue, and just an overall feel of crappiness. After seeing the Animatrix 2, I can safely say that it is the second worst "anime" I've ever seen. Right between Blood and Lupin III(although I've only seen it dubbed).

Fair enough, I'll agree I was disappointed. After seeing the 1st Animatrix episode, I obviously had much higher hopes for this one.
But look at the differences in the credits between the two. While the 1st Animatrix episode, "The Second Renaissance: Part 1" was written by the Wachowski brothers directly, this one was written and directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri instead. Perhaps one reason why we don't like it is because it just doesn't "feel" the same way.
Yoshiaki Kawajiri's previous works include, according to the site,

QUOTE

Wicked City (1987), Ninja Scroll (1993), and most recently Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust (2000).

Having only seen one out of these three (Ninja Scroll) and disliking its use of violence over plotline, it doesn't come as much of a surprize that this episode bears some similarities.
There's hope, though. The next episode, "Detective Story", scheduled for release next month in April, was written and directed by Shinichiro Watanabe, who directed Cowboy Bebop. Plenty more respectable than Ninja Scroll, if you asked me.
And he did bloodlust? But I've heard such good things about it....
Now I don't know what to think....
I concur.
I just finished watching this second one. Didn't really like it. It didn't seem like the matrix at all. I mean hell, its modern day stuff, not ancient sword ridding japan samuri stuff...
I thought it was pretty good, personally. Yeah, the dialogue wasn't great - but how good was the dialogue in The Matrix? Um, it wasn't. (: Just as overblown as this was. And the animation was SPECTACULAR. I must have watched the scene in the bamboo 20 times.
Yeah, the samurai element was odd. Yeah, her hair was friggin huge. *shrug* It didn't bother me that much. Take it for what it is.
As for Flight of Osiris - do a search for it on Kazaa. It's about 9mb, and worth every bit.

Yeah had me wondering too. The Matrix is as "japanese animé" as I have ever seen. Without actually being drawn in that style. There's no need to hate animé because its drawn. I must admit myself that I can't care less for half of it, I do not understand the infatuation of all things drawn by japanese that seems to prevail. But I don't dislike it if theres a good story and the drawing style ain't entirely out of whack with what I can stomach.
I concur.

The short movies aren't suppose to have anything to do with The Matrix movie. The only thing they have in common is how man battles the machine..
O:
It wasnt anywhere near on par with the first one, good animation, but a nonsensical and almost nonexistant plot. They could've done a lot better, there were even scenes with the characters talking besides the movement of their lips..

I am left handed, and I take offense. Oh the troubles of growing up in a Righties world... Always the oppressed minority! Damn those right handed scissors... Damn them all...
But yeah, the plot on this second one was silly stupid.
Why wasn't she wearing any fricking pants at the end? Nobody else in the Matrix universe strips down to their panties just because they have to go into The Construct (well, except maybe Cypher...)
Silly Japanese hent^H^H^H^Hanime designers. :P
However I'm a rather large anime fan, in fact I am sitting here with my brand-new-just-arrived-today Cowboy Bebop manga!
Listening the the Cowboy Bebop OST, but Evangelion was the one that brought me into it all!
Princess Mononoke is one of the BEST movies I've seen yet, live-action or otherwise.
and five or six of the Animatrix's are written by the Wachowski's...the others are approved by them.
Remember this people
Flayra > Wachowski's > God.
The first one they released we jaw droppingly awesome. I'm a huge anime fan, and even I was surprised at how good it was. =)
Oh, yeah, that link to the 4 1/2 minute trailer: http://progressive1.stream.aol.com/wb/gl/w...tr_4_720_dl.mov
