How Do I Launch Ns Without Starting Hl/cs First?

<div class="IPBDescription">How do I launch NS without starting HL/C</div> Hi,

When I try to launch NS from either the Desktop Icon or the Start menu, it seems to work, since the NS menus and everything appear - but when I actually try to connect to a server I get an error message stating that I must load the NS mod before connecting to a server.

I know some people have talked about a bug in the Desktop icon - but no matter what I do, I just can't get NS to work without first starting Counter-Strike Retail, and clicking through all the menus of Loading a mod, and Activating it, etc. etc. before I can connect to a server.

The goal here is to use HLSW or Gamespy or something, and launch NS from there, but since I can't understand how to "direct-launch" NS without first clicking the menus inside CS/HL, I really don't know what to do...

Please help if you can.

Don't use the desktop icon. And if you want to repair it, put the starting path in the shortcut to the HL dir.

right click on the shortcut you want to use for natural selection. Go to properties. from there, there will be an empty box called starting path. In there, enter something like this:

    "C:\SIERRA\Half-Life"

Of course, it will be dependant on your half-life's main directory. That'll fix the problem though.

Hmm... The current Target of the desktop is:
C:\Games\Counter-Strike\cstrike.exe -game ns -noipx -nointro -console

Since I don't have Half-Life installed per se, rather the so called "Counter-Strike Retail" version, I don't have a directory called "Half-Life" or "HL" or similar. Only the "Counter-Strike" directory mentioned above.

The top-nodes of my directory is as seen in the attached image, as well as the Properties dialog of my NS icon.

Does this help you guys to examplify a bit more what my new Target should be? Or do you mean that I must enter something in the "Start in" field?

    Thankful for your help,
    /Tomper

    Thanks everyone!

I got both the Desktop Icon and HLSW to work now. It was indeed the missing path that was the problem.

    Cheers!
