Sure it looks fun... but is it -scary-?

<div class="IPBDescription">(probably for those thats played it)</div>Seeing how this is pretty much a "sci-fi horror movie-ish"
I suppose it's only fair to ask those that have actualy been blest enough to play NS so far.
Has there ever been a situation where something just came out of nowhere, had a situation so desperate, came so close to death that you could just not help yourself from yell out loud, or at the very least, got freaked out?
'Cause this seems like a "Natural Direction" for the mod to take, making it able to scare the crapposity out of your opponent atleast once.
So I wanna hear how these mighty playtesters were heard screaming like wee-girls for our amusment! Come on... you know you want to tell us....
Mwhahaha?

Actually, that isn't the point. If you do a little reading <a href="http://www.natural-selection.org/MappingGuidelines.htm" target="_blank">here</a>, you'll see how the game is <i>not</i> supposed to be "horror movieish". That does a better job of explaining it than me, so... yeah.
-From last weeks playtest
Nuff said.
you'll get startled a lot, i am sure of it
Just clearing stuff up... yeah... I do that for some reason...
Anyways, the game definitely won't leave you disappointed in the atmospheric/tense/*suprise!* department... it just isn't going to be like pure horror.
Lol, maybe it will be for some though! <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

As for being scary, it is jumpy-scary, when a ton of sudden stuff happens, but not gore-scary with blood spraying and limbs falling out of vents, hehe.

<b><i>ScreechGurggleRoar!</i></b>
What the hell was that!
Oh... it was me...
I have never been scared to be alone in any map, except for Bast. Purely down to the atmosphere Relic has got into the map and the NS musical score.
I'd rather hear great stories like these then none at all.
and its not like you wont ever play it, you will ... just not as soon as the playtesters.
Dude, I'm so glad NS isn't gonna be a survival horror type of thing. And I'm also really glad that the gratuitous (sp?) violence is gonna be low. Not for the kids, but for me. I don't enjoy playing games where blood is thrown around for no reason.
Now if only you guys could find some way to put some really excessive and overindulgent nudity in the game. Then you'd have a hit on your hands. : )
And no I'm not talking about Bob in a thong or anything. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

Ok I should have probably rephrased what I called a "Sci-fi horror" Basicaly one where there are aliens... on a deserted ship, with a pack of marines that get killed off by the aliens... yada yada. But I will completely agree about the -gore- factor. A truely scary thing wouldn't need to rely on actual gore, the gore is just there to make the situation more sickening/threating/ect... I could see the occasional dead body lying around, but I sorta doubt aliens would realy leave that behind when they could just consume it. So a skull here or there would make sense.
Guess this post was succesful and hearing the screams of the playtesters (sorta). I wonder if someone playing alien has ever been spooked by what a marine did to it...

PS. I am going to cry at the end of the X-Files tonight <!--emo&:(--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('><!--endemo-->
i knew better... but i didnt realize i was talking about a bug... gotta be more carefull what i say... im sorry about this...
anyway... it was scary... i can assure you...
Not all aliens are based on melee attacks. But since I don't really trust my knowlegde about the different alien classes enough, I leave the weapon details explaining to somebody else.
