I still think it speaks for both mods that they have blown anyone elses chance to win out of the water. GG!

I d/l'ed Desert Combat this morning to see what its like, its basicly normal bf1942 with modern hardware, there is no change to gameplay just different weapons and vehicles. The stuff looked good although some of the skins were pretty plain/undetailed (I know its alpha but its in the poll and is being judged on this version not what It *may* become").

I dont really see how this poll is supposed to work, in technical terms and level of modification NS wins hands down which is pretty obvious just by looking at them both. If its a popularity contest then why bother in the first place, gamespy has all that statistical data on players in each game so they could of just worked it out themselves in 5 minutes.

and they got Un controllable Chopper,to fast fighters to hit ships/vechiles with the missiles without getting killed, one tank is better than eny tank in the game(it beats infrantry with 1 shot,2 missiles for tank what reload whole time, and the primary gun kills tanks in 20 secs)

when you think about it, its only a silly award.
Its pretty obvious by now that way more people play DC than NS.
i suggest going over there to congratulate them, instead of having a silly battle.

I'm not spamming, I'm discussing. Please don't kill me.

As for the mod Desert Combat: it looks great by the screens and I'm sure it's a <b>really good and fun mod</b>, just like the original game, Battlefield 1942. That's my point. Battlefield 1942 is a excellent game with a very impressive engine. Should that affect how good the mod is also? Yes to some degree of course, but as I see it, Desert Combat just tweaks the damage of the new weapons included, add a couple of new vehicles, playermodels, some new maps (?) and so on. What's the big deal? We have seen thousand of mods like this, but only one mod/game like Natural Selection. Are you guys voting for the best engine or modification? Be honest now.

<b>ctsketch wrote:</b><!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->No, The Problem is when the poll came up our Website was Down and we didn't get to advertise it, so the only people who voted refrred to us were by Forum<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->The poll were not mentioned on Natural-Selection.org for some time also. Anyhow I think there are a more people active in the Natural Selection community, that by just comparing the amount of posts in Natural-Selection.org and DesertCombat.com.

<b>ctsketch wrote:</b><!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->DC has over 30k Dls on FP alone and that verion is only a month old.,.......<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->Yes, and Natural Selection has 55 000 downloads (some months older though). Let's check the "Reader Rating" under the file downloads. Natural Selection has <b>4.1/5.0</b> by 225 votes, with 55 000 downloads. Desert Combat has <b>5/5.0</b> by 4364 votes, with 35 000 downloads: <u>5 out of 5 possible with 4364 votes</u>! What the **** is going on? It is now quite obvious and I'm convinced that some of the Desert Combat fans are using scripts and such to increase the votes to their favourite mod, in for example the 'Reader Rating' and 'FilePlanet's Poll for Best New Mod' on Fileplanet.com. This is not fair play and the Fileplanet-staff have to do something about it, delete all votes from the same IP perhaps, very easy to do.

This is not some kind of alien conspiracy, it's probably the bitter truth. I once made a poll about mods on my website, and some guy used a "script" to give one specific mod 50 000 votes in less then a day, while the others had like 40 each. Is that fun? No, and we were really considering to report him to his internet service provider so that he could be shut down, or even the police for slowing down the webservers database.

Yes, I have to agree with Namron. DC is lots of fun on a great game. The new models are nice, but really, what is DC? Tweaked damage and new models (and the Apache). It's really the same game as it was before, but with some tweaking. NS is a full blown brand new experience. When was the last time you said "Yeah, NS is ok, but its not as good as that other FPS real time strategy game where everyone plays an active role on the battlefield!" The only other sort of game that might even somewhat fit that description would probably be Tribes.

I'm not saying DC isnt worthy of praise, because it is, but if you take a step back for a moment, it really isn't anything new or inspired.

Guys, don't get bent out of shape if NS doesn't win. The fact that NS is sticking with a mod where the original game is currently topping the sales charts is a major f'ing victory in itself. I think it's kind of strange that what is basically reskins and slight modifications to weapons for an existing game is up against a totally new game like NS, but not much you can do about that.

<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin--> Namron: It is now quite obvious and I'm convinced that some of the Desert Combat fans are using scripts and such to increase the votes to their favourite mod, in for example the 'Reader Rating' and 'FilePlanet's Poll for Best New Mod' on Fileplanet.com. If that's the truth (and I honestly have no idea if it is or not), don't sweat it. Frankly I don't worry about NS winning "awards," if people playing DC really think NS "sucks" then they don't deserve to play it, the ignorant bastiches. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

DC looks good. Looking forward to a 1.0 in the future.

    Voted for NS though.

I have sent an e-mail to Fileplanet now regarding the <u>suspected</u> mass-multivoting by a (hopefully) small amount of Desert Combat fans. They can see if there are a large number of votes by the same IP-adresses and/or similar.
  • XzilenXzilen Join Date: 2002-12-30 Member: 11642Members, Constellation
And I would like to remphasize that no one whom plays NS should vote more than once. We are above that.

While I most certainely think that NS should win, DC deserves some credit.... As maybe being the SECOND best MOD next to Natural Selection <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

I'm sure it Would be Pointless to Email Fileplanet about Multivoting, as I am sure at least few people from both Mods have used this method (although it is very wrong) In this thread alone many people encouraged others to empty cookies and vote again for NS for example...

Doesn't seem to be helping, they are getting about 10 new votes every minute. I've tried cleaning out my history, cookies, etc to re-vote, and it isn't working, it must be for them though.

But if you look at the amount of votes and the results in for example "Reader Rating" you instantly realize that this multivoting-deal may have taken ugly proportions in the Desert Combat community. By the way, The Specialists is a great mod, Revenant. I love it! :)

I find it hard to believe 5000 people play DC right now. Its sad they have to multi-vote to win a "best mod". Seriously, how hard could it have been to take a BRAND NEW GAME ENGINE, and throw in some new models and edit a couple pyshics? Its lame something so quick and simple to do (proven by the fact it came out so quickly) beats a mod that took years to make, and pushes an engine to its limit, and is ALSO a new genre....yeah, makes sense. If I could find a way to do it, I'd clean out and re-vote 6000 times or more to make sure NS wins, but cleaning out my cookies hasn't been working, so it looks like we lose to 12 year old 1337z

    Don't be silly.

Mulit-voting is the same for natural-selection.

Come on, we're more mature than that. Let's not act like a bunch of fanboys here.
But I'm quite surprise we didn't pull more votes considering the Jones Soda Label incident.
