but..wth is it about?
Ok, observant people will notice that Flayra has gone off to a Games Developer Conference for a while.
I went to the page and it was slightly obscure as to what it was about.. apart from the "Make Better Games" bit...which is strange as Flayra has arguably made the best game this year....Any ideas?

The Game Developers Conference defines the future of the $9 billion game industry and shapes the next generation of entertainment. Now gearing up for the 17th event in 2003, the conference provides an independent forum for expert developers from around the world to share ideas, build skills, and learn about the latest tools and technologies.
The Gama Network is the only media organization targeted exclusively at developers and publishers of electronic games. Our vision is to make games the leading entertainment form of the 21st century by empowering and inspiring this strategic community. Our publications, events, web sites and research are focused on facilitating business relationships and the exchange of ideas, thereby advancing the state of the art and driving growth in the game market.
Our attendees, readers, and members are the technical, creative and business talent behind today's and tomorrow's hottest games. They are game designers, artists, animators, programmers, producers, sound designers, testers, audio engineers, publishers, level designers, and, above all, pioneers. They employ a broad tool set, including hardware, software, and services, to create applications that entertain over 100 million people worldwide. Their work is responsible for the emergence of games as a major market force, surpassing box office receipts in revenue in 1999.

Seems to me the game developers are going to give lectures & hold discussions about recent developments & innovations, new game types/genres, etc.
P.S. I am not making that title up.
a friend of mine that worked on Action HL went to something like that

Off-Topic: Supernorn, what happened to your old sig? It was so ponage... D:
Cripes, I just noticed my GDC swag bag is still sitting under my desk where I left it after last year. I need to figure out someplace to put all that crap...
The "experimental gameplay" thing sounds really cool. Unfortunately I'm only going Saturday - the last day is usually the most boring. No beer, even.

Oh, my friend, there will be beer. One word... kegger.
On a more constructive note(not to say that beer drinking is not constructive) GDC is far and away one of the greatest conferences there is. The energy and passion these developers have is truly intoxicating... it's like walking into a university, but all focused on gaming goodness.

Not that I don't already have my Gigapass ready for GDC, but Comdex is far superior in terms of seeing cool **** that makes you say "Wow, humans can make **** like that?!" and other things that you won't see available for mainstream consumption for years to come.
Plus, its often hosted in Vegas. 'Nuff said.
