    Yea, 1.1 and it is still unknown when it comes out, but you can see, if you read other posts on this topic, you will find out more good things coming out with 1.1 Well good luck

    Nobody from the admins can tell me if it's gonna use less cpu load <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Flayra has promised MUCH lower CPU load, but is unsure how to impliment the solution....stay tuned.

    We are sure how to reduce load quite a bit now and CPU usage should be signifigantly lowered in 1.1 in most cases (I still don't have good numbers on this but I'm working on it). Look for more info soon.

    Wait for it, waaiiiitttt foooorrr iiittt.

    But hurry with that patch, many gameserver company's need it, so more company's then will renting ns servers, so u got then more players for ns <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
    Think about the company's and players <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
    So i hope that soon that patch is there, so i can sell more gameservers for ns <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Will the lower CPU rates be fore windows and Linux?

    Well ... maybe 1.1 will bring a better performance, but allways keep in mind that NS will ever use much more CPU than a CS or DoD server ... just think of the 400-600 entities/map.

    Its no big deal to run two CS servers on a single 600 Mhz computer.

    Try that with NS and I can almost smell the plastic burning.

    No kidding. I could run a 18 player CS server on my box with ~30% CPU Load all day long. In NS, a 18 man server runs something in the neighborhood of 85-90% CPU load... definitely looking forward to 1.1

    Great news to me! I think the single largest obstacle to Natural Selection's succes is cpu load. I've seen several companies either charging more for a NS server or outright refusing to host the game because of it. Their math is like this: 1 NS server = 2 CS server -> NS bad binniz!

    Is the solution you are working on the one Flayra mentioned last year?

    Just so everyone knows, I'm actively working on the CPU usage problem. I've found the problem (the exact line) but believe it or not, the fix is still not simple. I've spent days on this, even with a friend (Citixen) helping, and it's utterly confounding. I'm hoping for a breakthrough today.

    If I can fix the problem, you'll see CS-like performance in NS.... <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Oh, and were you able to get a play test version out to the testers before Flayra left for GDC? I hope! I hope!

    Is there any chance we could stop posting "how much CPU does NS use"-type threads??

    Any chance AT ALL??

    You're welcome to not read them. And no, there isnt a real chance untill it stops being an issue for people. Unlike you I do not run one myself and have to grope in the dark to figure out what goes on. And I've read the webbed and they didnt shed much more light on what I wanted to know, since there's so many different opinions/observations.

    Yeah no one said u must read EVERY topic, to allot of people running a gameserver or wanting to rent a server for NS this is a very BIG deal to these people and I hope it gets solved.

    Do a search on the topic.

    This will throw up MANY previous topics in which helpful people have stated exactly what they run and the performance they get.

    These helpful people have said it over and over again, and frankly, I think I speak for the other helpful people out there too, we're getting pretty cheesed off with having to repeat ourselves over and over and over again.

    PLEASE do a search before posting queries, is that REALLY too much to ask?<!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I DID! How I found out about this thread! Preaching to the vicars as I believe you've said <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> But it's moot for now, since there is changes coming in 1.1. So the whole merry-go-round will run again come that patch I am sure.
