    Theres so many kids now running a shell/server/web hosting 'company' from their parents house without a clue. These are the kind of places you really need to keep far away from.

    Well I was once threatened I could get chucked off my ISP just for complaining to an admin that he was abusing admin rights by deleteing my messages that were not offensive whatsoever.     So kalleth from what I gathered from that irc log this guy pretty much doesn't have a leg to stand on. ALTHOUGH!! Here it comes.... he doesnt have to give you your money back. Because you made no formal deal/signed any documents or anything along the lines of that he's perfectly entitled to keep that 50 quid. You should thank your lucky stars he gave you 250 back. If you wan't your money back kiss his **** for 5mins untill he puts the cash back in your account then send round some shady geezers to do a number on his house! You did kindof provoke the bugger from what I see on that log! But I can also see he peed his pants a bit when you gave him the counter legal action spiel.

    lol, was worth the read. Its just silly.
    I am going off of US laws (don't know UK ones), and he was throwing around liable (a term used in US law). welll, as Ahnteis said

    Does anyone else find it rather amusing to be holding a conversation such as this over a communication medium such as IRC....

    1.) I can forge a log very very easily. Logs don't prove jack.
    2.) Signed documentation is the best proof you can have in a lawsuit.
    3.) He's wasting his time trying to bully you with legal action, judges don't give a crap about a 2-bit company run by a few guys on the internet.

    Let me sum up this entire thing with a "What have we learned from this?" type scenario.

    Should you enter into business investments with shady characters?

    No.

    Bottom line: If you're going to enter into any type of business with someone you know, without signing contracts, agreements or deals... make sure that A) You could leave your children at their house overnight without worrying about their safety or B) You have enough blackmail on that person to take them down if the need should arise.

    You won't learn that in business school.
