<div class="IPBDescription">i'm skulk food...:(</div> How do i get a better FPS rate?

i started playing using my single player HL setting, a res of 1024x768 and was getting a FPS rate of about 45fps, they reduced my res down to 800x600, FSP=30-35 <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo-->

under advisement i think i set it to 640x480 and played in software mode...... SEVEN FRAMES PER SECOND!!!!!!! in the RR on a "LAN" bot game?!?!?!:angry: <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Software mode is bad. Unless you have a supercomputer. Dont use software mode.

    Without more details about the system you are using I'd have to say READ THE STICKY.

    Most cards opperate best with the latest drivers and in OpenGL. Most modern cards are optimised for 800x600 or 1024x768.

    yea don't run in software or d3d, d3d has some really weird issues in half life, like it was never optimized properly. dont have stuff running in the background when you play, also bots can put a big strain on your cpu if you don't have a blazing machine. every little movement each bot makes is updated by your processor, so play with less bots.

    never use software, BUT d3d runs better then opengl in some systems, what system are you running ? ... and also, remmember that playing with bots is way less fps then playing online, playing with bots mean your computer does everysingle thing that happens in the game.

    By the way.. what is wrong with 45 fps?
    I think its very good.. you can play in it.
    I use to have about 20-30 fps in Unreal Tournament 2003 and its much more good looking than Half-life.
    So.. why are you complaining?

    My second Pc can only get 45 fps in game, there is little I can do without spending money on it as it's just not meaty enough. Because of the various fps related features in NS you are unfortnately playing at a disagvantage with less than 80fps average. My lowest spec pc drops to 25fps when the comm turret spams and then using a jp is impossible. At least it's impossible after I got used to my main PC that gets 100fps. My 5 year old has a slower PC and I only managed 25fps when the map was emtpy from that one, but he can't play NS anyway.

    Until 1.1 when these issues will possibly be sorted it is important to get the most fps you can. In the same way that a 19" monitor and optical mouse help so does a very high framerate.

    lucky you, I get 100 fps in ready room, 30 fps wandering the halls, and 8 fps anywhere near bldgs/a marine.

    The trick is to cap your FPS so that it isnt a major shift when you see a skulk. A steady FPS is better than a <good/bad> fps.

    Yeah, what's wrong with 45 fps? or even 25 fps? I'd kill to have that kinda fps in a marine base!

    I have a GeForce 2 viedeo card and a 1200 mhz AMD processor. Ph yeah and I also use a t3 connection. Even in the heat of combat sometimes I can get up to 59 or 60 fps. It never really falls below that for long. I think I use openGL mode.

    well when you consider the higher your framerate, the faster your computer can draw the skulks, and other info your modem is receiving, it can make you a better player. most people can feel the difference every 10fps up to around 80, then the gap gets wider. also, if you play with vsync on (assuming you have a high refresh rate monitor, like 85Hz at the res you play at.) it will fix the ugly polygon clipping you se when strafing around a corner, and other stuff. and since its only drawing so many frames to the screen your movements will seem smoother because your resources can be used for faster updating etc. ie 85Hz Vsync'd seems like 130fps

    i used to play games like quake 2 at 25fps MAX, and was pretty goor, for a 56ker. then i got a job, and a good computer. now my framerate only drops from turret farming (and other spam types) and only goes down to 30fps (which is still pretty bad) in the comm chair with lots of buildings. ns is a system killer, considering i get 130fps in 1600x1200x32 in quake 3, and my ns res is 1280x960x32
