<div class="IPBDescription">sad............</div> I can't seem to fly with a jetpack. In that one level ns_misslecommand_final3 where you have to fly up with a jetpack to destroy their hives i cant seem to do it. I know i have a jetpack and that the bar is always full. I heard about fps having to do with it. Mine is 72. Is that low? I always see people fly for like 5 minutes but i always end up suiciding from falling. Help!

Well... Frames Per Second can't really have naything to do with how the game functions, jsut how smoothly you see things. That's always the glitch how people keep hitting the spacebar at correct times to get infinite jetpack fuel, but, I dunno. Never played the map, but I guess you could... Find some sort of ledge to land on on the way up? Or something to the sort. Don't really know what to tell you.

Did you ever play the game thrust? Each time you press the jump key you get a burst of power, you can hold jump for a longer burn, 72fps is fine and if you tap the thrust key with practive you can hover almost indefinately. Watch the fuel though because it will drop and when it runs out you fall. Once your falling it is very hard to stop.
For practive, start NS, create a lan game, choose the map ns_bast for starters and when you are in drop the console and type
    sv_cheats 1
    bind F11 givepoints
use F11 to increase your resources,
Tech up to Jetpacks, try flying one without any weapons, with loaded/unloaded weapons and with heavy weapons.

Task 1 get down to Refinery hive in one piece, try not to hurt yourself
Task 2 land on the all the beams and structures in refinery, and on top of all the structures. Use a short burst just before touchdown to soften the landing. If you have ever parachuted think of it as the flare before landing, get it wrong and you either break your ankles or zip up another 20' in the air.
Task 3 See how far you can get from refinery without touching the ground.
Task 4 Spray your logo on the wall in refinery up near the hive, get down the other end of refinery and try fly past the hive and bullseye the spray whilst flying, try with all weapons except GL. For GL practive you can go alien and set up a few DC to target.
Task 5 Avoid picking up a jetpack in game until you are comfortable performing all these tasks.

Please dont pass off your false opinion as fact.

FPS does affect jetpacks and many other things, however 72 fps is completely fine.

yes, it does affect the jp energy performance.. and just a tip delta.. type "fps_max 99" in consol... the default is 72 i think.. adn you will probly get a higher framerate depending on your system.

Ah, since you seem to already be talking about the console commands I might as well ask here instead of making a whole new topic...

Well, anyway, is there a list or something somewhere that would show all of the console commands and cheats and everything?
  • eagleceaglec Join Date: 2002-11-25 Member: 9948Members, Constellation
    There's a list of half-life console commands on <a href='http://half-life.gamehelp.com/console/net.html' target='_blank'>http://half-life.gamehelp.com/console/net.html</a>

Not sure about the ns_specific ones though.

    Well, thanks anyway.

Still if anyone knows anything please let me know.

Tip : Type in the console fps_max 101

Mainly cos ur fps is limited to 72 as that is the defult limit.

That will allow u(for now) to jetpack easier

Also try not to hold the button down, but do taps of the jump button to keep u elevated and try NOT to let it go below 3/4(the fuel) if you are in a high place, as you may crash down and die <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

Cause he wants to practise for a time when he can't muck around with server variables.

you can currently gain more fuel than you use while in air if you have high enough fps.

Bleh, the search function hates me...

I just tested the jetpak/fps theory, and it clearly works. At 85 fps, staying up is easy, but at about 70 the effect lessens and at less than 70 you will fall (but slowly). Unfortunately, even with a fast comp like I have, lots of chambers tend to drop my fps, so I don't know if staying up infinitely long would be feasible.

It is, with practive you can circle round a hive avoiding chambers but as the fps vary depending on what your looking at, and thus your lift and fuel consumption varies it is very tricky. I run a P4 2gig with a Geforce 3 and rarely have trouble with jetpack fuel now that I've done my practice.

Unfortunately when comm'ing I expect half the team to be able to use the jetpack with a fair degree of competance - to be able to complete all the tasks I set - and this can be my undoing <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

At the moment Jetpacking is a very important skill for marines, competant use of a jetpack whilst shooting, without running out of fuel can win the game.
