Onos, Still Vital?

So what are you opinions, are onos vital for NS or are they just there plainly for fun? As it is now I see onos as a creature plainly there for fun, since a fade can do the job an onos can.     Fades get mowed down against level three hmgs and sometimes (in groups) lmgs.

    Once at level 3 it took me only a full lmg clip and pistol clip to get one. The guy said he started at full health.

    For fun. You can easily stomp the marines with a three-hive Lerk and Fade combo. Heck, even a two-hive Lerk/Fade combo can clean up. Most alien teams use this pairing to win their games... Onos, Gorge babblers, and Skulk xenocide are usually just for kicks.

    I wouldn't say make the Onos more powerful... when and if an alien team DOES decide to "go Onos" the results are even more embarassing for the marines, usually... no, instead, make the Lerk/Fade team a little less end-all do-all.

    onos is essential because:
    Marines advantage in the game is building large bases to defend places, upgrading stuff...
    Alien defense is weaker, aliens advantage is motion/mobility and rushing.
    So aliens (at last at the end of a Game) need an Unit that can kill ANY Fortres.

    Ever had a Game were marines relocated to one hive and Marines Had NO resource noozle (was not in the hive)?
    7 Fades + skulks + Gorge with all resources were unable to kill the last base because of 3 defensive nade launchers, a few turrets and a siege.
    I never wasted soo much Res as Gorge without any big sucess against nades.

    But its true that Onos has no real äquivalent. (want flame thrower, cost 25)

    Right now, it's mostly for fun. With bile bombs, poison clouds, umbra, xenocides, etc., you can kill the marine team off, slowly. Onos just speeds this up.

    I hope they change this.

    Generally in my experience we (the aliens) win before we are even able to get Onos. If we get Fades it is normally over, so Onos don't seem to be too crucial to me.

    Onos has no real use in the game, it's gets stuck all the time in doorways and in and around OC.

    I dont like Onos atm, i like the idea of them, a big fat powerful super alien.. who couldnt not love that? But it needs to be changed... possibly by halving the bite damage so its other assets are more useful, like Primal Scream and Paralysis atm they are just eye candy.

    Onos is useful when the marines have decided to create a Texas-sized farm of sentries to their main base and prolong the game. Just takes forever with fades: especially if they weld and rush. I don't like playing onos too much, because it gets stuck so damn easily. I think getting stuck is the worst bug after hitbox and map related TF upgrading bugs. A patch that fixes those 3 bugs alone would be a great patch indeed...

    Onos are the ultimate base cracker, albeit with a few bugs like getting stuck in WoL's and getting stuck because of Redemption.

    So true. Even 1.4 reduced umbra is damn near bulletproof, even against upgraded HMGs. Two bile-bombing fades with one umbra lerk in support can destroy anything the marines can build, and unless the fades are idiots they simply dodge the grenades. Grenades are slow, easy to see, and have too long a fuse. A smart fade just steps out of the way.

    So, since 3 aliens can destroy pretty much any marine defence without resorting to Onos, I guess those big old cows are just for fun.
