Is This True?

<div class="IPBDescription">Less ammo = faster?</div> <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Humbaba in the Shottie thread:

...Sometimes, it is best not to fully load your shotgun, but instead fill it about half way. The shotgun's shells drastically alter your movement speed and carrying a light load (total, not per clip) may be the difference between dodging an acid rocket and being smashed to pieces. The same applies to the pistol. On some occasions, I have thrown my pistol away for the extra speed boost, however it will leave you completely vulnerable to ranged attacks. The pistol is the shotgunners only defense against Lerks who spike from a great distance.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

So if you're carrying 10|10, you will run faster than if you were carrying 10|30 ?
Or if you have no pistol, you'll run faster than if you had a pistol? Even if you have your shottie out the whole time?

    Yep. Ammo has weight, just like your guns.

    Yes, ammo loadout does affect your speed (less so for pistol/lmg but it is very noticable with shotty or HMG) Someone made a nifty table of the running speeds with different loadouts a while ago but I don't remember the details. I do remember that full ammo with lmg/pistol was a little slower than spawn load, and shotgun/hmg ammo made quite a difference

    wow! so now I say "whoever stops loading at the armory gets the HA I'm dropping on the other side of base first!"

    Yeah, running times from horseshoe down the ramps to the wall (with spawn loadout) was about 9 seconds, and with full ammo was something like 10.5. So its not a huge difference, but it can matter.

    So that's why I fall like a rock when I got a HMG and jetpack.

    I don't think your "weight" affects the gravity pulling on you (half-life's physics are fairly lacking) so i think it is just running speed.

    Weight definatly affects JP thrust.

    course some of our high FPS friends are unlikley to notice this

    *looks bitter*

    Lol i have high fps so JPs are a cake walk for me
    I thought he was referring to the actual fall though, like accelerating quicker down because you had more weight, not running out of thrust. My bad

    How high is "high FPS"?

    mmm what you think 10/20 sg/jp take the pistol or not cause those launch speeds are crucial if you dont semi-bh.

    Next time I get a shotty I'll take that into account...

    No more going 10|50 for me, it's 10|20 from now on. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    and if you ever took physics you'd know that weight doesn't affect falling speed anyways.

    Once i was playing ns_eclipse and i had a jp and hmg, but i didn't have a pistol (because i was placing mines in our base)
    And i was wondering why iam walking that fast with hmg

    /me is confused.

    mass doesnt affect falling speed in real life. weight is mass times gravity.... how are halflife physics lacking ??

    edit: does anyone kno if i drop my LMG while i ahve 250 bullets for it, do the bullets stay on my person or am i freed completely of LMG weight? imagine having full GL ammo, HMG ammo, LMG ammo and pistol ammo, and just carrying a welder and knife.

    I believe you keep your ammo, but I could me mistaken.

    no he means that F= -GM/r^2 and that f= ma as f is proportional to m in both the acceleration remains constant. But he forgot to include fluid dynamics the daft ****

    the mass of the object is *almost* independant in relation tot he acceleration. Depending on the shape of the object, there is always drag from air.

    However, assuming the jetpack power output stays the same, more mass would make it less efficient.

    On the topic of speed. Does Carapace slow you down as an alien?

    Its not like you need full ammo any ways when you spawn.
    Just grab some and head out. If your comm is doing their job well, he'll supply when you call for it, and besides its not like you'll survive half the time with to use all that ammo you store up on. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
