Why Is Ipx/spx Disabled?

Someone please explain.
Hello, I am from the Philippines and I am a NS addict. The so called cable internet companies here in my country have sub-average bandwith for the subscribers. I was wondering if enabling ipx/spx would improve my connection speed even a bit. I usually get 400 latency on good U.S. servers and I am not sure if ipx/spx protocol improves my speed. Is the protocol unused in this game? Thanks for any info.

ipx/spx is Novell's proptrietory protocol. Intranet Packet Exchange. Because of Novell's dominence in Corporate LANs and it's easy set up it became very popular for people to play LAN based games. However the internet doesn't support IPX, and it isn't any faster just a different set of rules for exchanging data packets. The internet uses TCP/IP which is Transmision COntrol Protocol/Internet Protocol.

That's plenty of info for this board, if you want to know more take this info and search in google.

Yup, they're the other 20 weird peeps with IPX/SPX enabled to their 'net connection.

SOmeone teach these people to unbind it, fast.

To answer the original question, when I wrote the installer code I removed IPX support in the shortcut to conserve a (small) amount of memory and remove the possibility of it causing problems for IP users that can't possibly make use of IPX. If you wanted to turn it back on, remove the -noipx line from your NS shortcuts.

Everything else these other fellas said is true as well.

Do you get shared printers too? I wrote a small text file saying please on your firewall and disable sharing, then I pasted it on their desktops Some of the folders are not shared though.
