I disagree to a...er...degree. That sounds weird. Anyways, I often take redemption as a gorge. It works reliably enough for me since I am always moving - the only thing I fear is a very close HMG or a mine/GL. Usually, those are the only things that can get around my redemption.
As a gorge, I find it more effective to do psychological warfare. Being able to kill a single marine in a group, then when fired upon wink out of existance as redemption kicks in is very effective. A battle gorge is fun too, but I try to play more of a support role, such as building at assault points or running forward to heal the team, not so much engaging in melee myself.
