So really, you're argument still doesn't hold up. The RA1 ore is just like tiberium except that it doesn't kill you. heh.
And also I'd like to say kudos to the Generals team for having a somewhat more realistic resource model for gathering resources. Nobody is gonna be harvesting gems or oil when there's tanks rolling by, but the generic "supplies" does seem lots more plausible.
I still think Real War, while overall was crappy, had one of the best resource systems ever. You just set up a supply depot and chinook's flew you supplies in at X intervals. Much more realistic than having miners work along w/ the soldiers. :P Sure the USA has something similar, but that's more of a backup method of resource gathering rather than a main method.
Since I've gotten Generals, I've vowed to become the 1337est GLA (terrorist) commander that I can be. The fact that I can make an entire squad of tanks scared for their lives with the sight of a lowrider carrying a kamikaze terrorst, kill well-trained infantry squadron with a crappy POS with machien guns sloppily mounted on the side, and send fear into the hearts of many generals at the sight of anangry mob (quite possibly the most powerful - and underestimated - "unit" in the game) just fills me with glee. I don't have too bad a record either - 10 and 7.
Hey, maybe some of you guys can play me sometime =). It'd be cool.

I haven't played MP w/ GLA yet, but in the SP campaign I found Quad-Cannon's w/ AP round upgrade + Rocket buggy w/ AP + pack upgrades to be a good combo for pwnage. Though i wasn't really taking on an army of overlords.. heh.
I got generals over the weekend, and it kept me interested. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
talking of specs, i run it on a pIII 700 with a GF2 MX400 gfx card and, apart from the slow loadtimes and the rather jerky framerate, i can run it on High level with not many problems.
only two things that really bug me. 1 - only one dozer cand build a stucture at once (you cant have more to build it faster) 2 - there is practically no storyline whatsoever. ok, ok, China are trying to push the GLA out of the country and the USA are helping china, but there is nothing else. for example, those of you who have played RA2 will probably all remember the scene when General Corville has been pushed to Canada, and says "Get me my office back lieutenent." classic.
overall rating 8/10 - would be 10/10 but it is not as immersing as the previous games in the C&C series <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

Sure it had a story! it was just hidden under the worst acting I've seen ever, and I've seen the Vietnam war classic "War Bus"
Well, all i will say is the AI just sucks in this version. My troops are being attacked, and they are just sitting there, not even firing back. They like to travel single file even if there is room to go 5 or 6 wide, so they walk into killing zones one at a time and die.I set troops to guard a zone, and well, they are being attacked by a buggy... and don't shoot back...
I must say, I am not impressed at all. <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo-->
That's a matter of AI. It's a first release with no patches at all. Remember how buggy NS was the very first night of public release? pings of 400-600 were considered good.
Everything has it's own little quirks to work out when it first comes out. Even StarCraft was a little wacked when it first came out but now it's still one of the top RTS.
I'd say give WestWood a month or so before they release a patch addressing the dodgy AI issues. It's just a simple matter of pathfinding and such.

AI is not a minor feature that can be fixed after release. It really **** me off in SP, but Im not going back to replay it with better AI, I beat it finally, it would be just dumb again. I classify this under "all looks - little play"...
I bought it on friday, and have played the hec out of it. I have to say, its a nice game, I would give it a 7/10.
The Pros_ Great Animations Great Unit Counters, Abilities= Good Strategy and tactics. Decent 3d Models(some are great, some suck) Fun, and very good online play(when it works)
Cons_ Horrific AI Bad Path Finding Buggy Online play Some outdated interface/Game control features
I love it though, its very fun to play. I Still think Age of Mythology is the best out there right now. But C&C Generals is a great one for more modern warfare. And it blows Empire Earth (*shudders*) out of the water. Warcraft 3 is great, but I just cant stand its RPG elements. The day that a lvl6 demon Hunter took out my 6 huntresses and my lvl4 PotM, I just gave up on it. I still have a decent record, but I just can't get back into it after that. Ugh. I wish heros would have just been retrainable stronger support units..instead of gods in that game. But it was fun though. Getting back to C&C....Generals is what I would reccomend to those that want a modern warfare style RTS that does not take itself too seriously. If you want a good blend of tactics and strategy, and you can take a bit of crappy pathfinding and AI....then its all for you.

I just beat the China campaign (Only 7 missions? WTF?) So far, it's been fun, but I think it needs a few mods. Something that maybe makes rescource collection a little bit easyer, and maybe make some tanks faster, and General-Rank weapons and abilities recharge quicker. That'd make the game more about TOT co-ordination and unit control then about building 4 overlord tanks.
Oh, I just realized that 10 hackers, after achieving 3rd level veterency, rake in a LOT of money.

And the guy in command of the nukes wouldn't happen to be named General Bowser would he?
The ore regenerated in C&C1 when it was near those spore trees. And the reason it regenerates faster in C&C2 (tib sun) is because, if you would have read the story, almost all of the earth has been covered with Tiberium, hence why the humans are living up in the arctic, the only spot on earth where the tiberium hasn't spread yet.
