<div class="IPBDescription">For the Glory of all Fanatics</div> I have started up a new NS site with the intention of providing a central point where those of you who enjoy making maps and mods for NS can place his work. these files would be hosted locally by me (although you can also provide WWW links to a location for the map if you have no need of hosting). Needless to say the site is at a very primative stage at the moment, but I hope to have it all ironed out soon. Hopefully people will submit there work here and provide the community with a quick and easy place to grab the latest mods, and comment on the latest maps.

Check it out at <a href='http://NS.Admins.US' target='_blank'>NS Center</a> (Comments are Welcome <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> )

A major graphical improvment is really needed, but I don't like the idea of members only, and the forums, PFFT.

    Other wise gj

Well the forums arent set up yet, and i'm still debating setting up forums for mapping and mod discussion since most people use the offical boards for such discussions, and another forum might be redundant.

As far as the requiring registered users, I decided it was better to require users to register to use command such as review and feedback, since another site has had problem with unregistered users being able to post replies and votes and ruining the average of the programs/maps with stupid replies. Registering takes no time at all, and allows the owners of the programs/maps to see who is actually posting the replies, and also allows the admins to keep track of abusive posters.

As far as the layout, as I said in the news I am looking for a graphics designer who would be willing to make graphics to make it look more NS'ish since my own skills in that area are rather limited.

Beyond that I have left the site somewhat primitive untill I see what kind of reaction the site gets, since I don't want to invest huge ammounts of time in setting up a super-site that will go unused. I already have several ideas ready to impliment should it prove popular.

But can I at least see stuff without registering?

Don't Know what you mean by 'see' stuff you can 'see' everything you need to get files ect. At present unregistered users cannot: Post Feedback, Visit Forums (Which are Empty untill I determine if its worth setting them up anyway), View the Members List, Send Private Messages, Post Reviews, Search, Answer Surveys, and use WebMail.

PS: Thanks goto SuicideDog for all those AMX mods

Fixed the "I Don't Like You Error". Apparently PHPNuke gets annoyed if you use characters like (),[] or {} in the download title.

Also redid the graphics, they arent perfect, but its getting there.

SpiritMaster, since there isn't a lot of positive feedback yet, I'd like to thank you for your work. Any mods of mine that I decide to distribute will find their first home at your site.

My only piece of criticism is that black text on dark backgrounds is bloody undreadable. I didn't mind the white, boring pages that were up before. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> Could you either make the text white when it's against maroon or navy, or lighten up those background colors a bit for more contrast?

Requiring registration for posting anything, be it maps, reviews, comments, etc ... is a very good thing. I used to not require registration for posting stuff on my Tribes 2 map site, but I changed that policy pretty quickly when people were posting junk.

I agree about changing the text color or lightening the backgrounds.

Well we will have to see how the site takes off, ATM nobody seems very ineterested in registering <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> I get loads of guets, but nobody who registers. Ultimately its the mod and map makers who will decide the future of the site. I add maps and mods and I find them posted on here, but unless the makers themselves choose to use the site theres not much you can do. And of course if people dont register to post feedback on the various sections it wont be visted much.,.

The site is still young tho and I doubt there will be any overnight sucesses, sites like mine becomes popular from a long association. you cant just put it up and expect people to flock to it in droves.

I added forums to the Site but these are <b>NOT</b> permanent since i'm currently fiddling with a phpBB mod to intigrate the board with the phpNUKE system thereby bypassing the need to double-resgister.

PS: [WHO]Them Read yer PM's on the site and if u have a newer mod u can sumbit it via the downloads page. And you think <b>YOU</b> are a shameless self promoter? Dark red with black text? Dark blue with black text? might as well have made it black on black.. it's just about as hard to read the text... it's either that or try to turn up my gamma so much that the dark red looks pink and the dark blue look like sky blue.

There are already well established sites doing what this site is intended for. I run one of them (<a href='http://nsworld.ns-central.co.uk/Main.php' target='_blank'>NS World</a>) and endorse the use of another for uploads (<a href='http://www.brandyfire.com/index.php?page=nsmaps' target='_blank'>BrandyFire.com</a>). I really don't see the need for another site, especially one with such obvious asthetic problems.

So those sites have expanded their services to include mod/plugin repositories? If so, I can't seem to find those areas. I also don't see the problem with having multiple sites host files for download, unless the maintainers are competing for advertising traffic, or have some kind of alpha-complex.

Changed the color scheme to make it more readable, lemme know if you still have problems.

The Upload system is currently broken I'm afraid as even after I add the folders for uploading they wont appear on the pull-down menu. I'll fiddle with it after I get the phpBB forums linked into phpNUKE. If you want to add a download there is a link in the Downloads section called 'Add Download' use that to submit files untill such time as I can get the upload system working.

As far as the other sites NS World currently has problems in that anybody can post a review, and quite often they are total crap, this was brought up in a different post which you can search for if you are interested. This aside the end result is that the maps on NS-World frequently have crappy ratings becuase un-registered users can give it a 1/10 with comments like 'n00b map'. Brandyfire seems a good site but on that site I cant seem to find anywhere at all to submit map reviews or ratings. Ultimately this is what caused me to create a site that hosted both maps and plugins, and gave registered users the ability to rank the files without them being spoiled by unregistered users. In many respects NS-World has some superior options for hosting maps like the ability to submit screenshots, which my site doesnt have, but NS-World's map section seems to be going rapidly downhill for lack of anybody to fix the voting system to keep the abusers out.

All this aside I relize that the site does have problems, and I try to fix them as quickly as possible but I am currently the only person working on this site using a pre-scripted program. As verbose stated theres nothing wrong with one more site, just becuase something has ''been here since the begining'' doesn't necessarily mean that it's ''The Best'' its quite possible that another site may come along, or that existing sites will be improved, and knock me out of the loop. I'll reetirate once again that I made this site becuase I felt the others were lacking and wanted to provide everything that I felt was necessary for a good NS-Site, I would freely welcome the help of ChromeAngle or any other people who would be interested in helping make this site the place to be for NS needs.

Don't use BMP's for your graphics. Use GIF for images with straight lines in them and jpeg for the more photo type images. Also change the images they look horrible. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

PNGs are superior to GIFs, and are not encumbered by royalty-generating patents (backstabbers at Unisys...).

As far as the graphics go, they are all taken from the NS Media pack, as I have no skill personally in making graphics. I am always on the lookout for people who would be willing to make better graphics for the site, and I realize there are a few anomolies in the site, but those aside I personally don't think it looks half bad, tho feel free to disagree <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> . At this stage tho I'm more interested in getting all the modules up like the new Gallery section I added, than streamlining the graphics to 100%. Minorly glitched graphics can usually be overlooked unless you sit there scrutinizing the site for em, but if the modules are faulty it becomes fairly obvious soon.
