I just played a game with 24 people in it, where the marine team used primarely mines to defend their base. We had a "Jackass" commander, or so everyone thought, who was just messing around... BUT IT WORKED. We probably put out over 500 mines during the game, and just litered anywhere we wanted defended with mines. Any time a skulk would get by the walls of them, they would try killing one of us and usually end up falling on one of them by accident and killing himself. This tactic was nearly flawless if everyone participates and keeps the mines up. In the end, we kept sewer and generator clear for the whole game, and only built a phase and and armory at each. Actually, in the end we had 4 turrets at the sewer. Then we all got heavy armor and gren launchers and took on their last hive.
It took probably a good 70-80 min to finish the game, and I'm sure the aliens weren't having the greatest time, but my friend and I were laughing our **** off at how well it was working. I'm sure it also helped that it was 4am, and everyone was gitty.
I wish I had taken some screenshots, but I didn't have a ss button, oh well. I dunno if anyone who was playing with me is gonna read this, but if you do, and have your own pics, post em.

More power to you for pulling this tactic off. Mines are truly truly under-appreciated by the vast majority of commanders out there.
I had a tough game as alien last night, the marines secured every phase gate and res tower with multiple trip mines...we won in the end but that is one damn good mine tactic.
I'm not sure if they can get landmines tho, but spit will trip laser mines.

Mines are just great if there are no idiots placing 8 mines at one tiny place (gives just one kill) And as long as there are no fades and you dont have jetpacker mines.
But I think people don´t like them because of spending 8 res to a 5 blasts non reloadable weapon. They see it as a waste. Not to mention they eat your second slot (pistol).
well I don´t like losing my pistol. Even to the welder.
Mines should be in a fourth slot.
A marine can pick it up, phase to the hive and lay down some quick/effective defence to give the builders extra time to get the defences up. Well placed mines can delay one, perhaps even two waves of skulks. By then hopefully the builders have got the Tfac and Turrets up.
Mines are invaluable, and I recommend putting a few by the phase even if the hive has been secured with turrets.
I've seen really sneaky people put mines just around corners in hot areas (lots of alien activity) of the map. If they get pack rushed they fall back behind a corner with skulks ripping after them and <b>BOOM!</b> "clean up on aisle six".
Mines are great.

One time most of the team, including the comm hmself, told me to shut up when i kept asking for mines and the comm wouldn't give them out.
Unfortunately, our little pg rush on fusion was completely decimate thanks to the fact that we had no mines to protect the pg and tfac after skulks rushed us.
Moral of the story- mines > turrets for cheap, fast, rushing defense. Always equip an attack group with a mine person, just like you would equip one with a welder.
