Don't know if it's been brought up but...

Was just over at gamespy and they had a little preview of Warcraft 3 Expansion. Check out the above quote and see the name of one of the new abilities. Sound familiar? <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
Seems the Blizzard guys play NS. I could be jumping to conclusions but it did sound a little too much like a certain NS ability. Full link here anyways: <a href='http://www.gamespy.com/previews/february03/warcraft3tft/' target='_blank'>http://www.gamespy.com/previews/february03...3/warcraft3tft/</a>

    This was ment to be a light hearted post. I just thought it was neat that there was an ability almost identical to blink called blink in war 3.
    I wasn't being serious <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Blink was an ability in Warcraft 3 when it was still in conceptual stages. This was way back, early 2001 I think. Back then, each race was supposed to have 6 heroes. The Warden (called Assassin back then) was one of the heroes for the Night Elves, and it had the blink ability. Then, the amount of heroes got reduced to 3 for each race, and the Assassin got the cut. Now, she's back for the expansion with the blink ability.

    My point: Blizzard thought of it first. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Disclaimer: I'm not serious either.

    The gr8 thing about WC3 is that your Footmen/Ghouls/Archers/Grunts don't sit around at your base, screaming for weapons, going rambo, and exiting to RR when you're losing. They're completely under your control.

    Also.. Your opponent won't yell at you for 5 hours about your "wall of lame" consisting of Guard Towers, nor will a footman eject you if you militia rush.

    Actually, blink-the-short-range-teleportation-spell has been used for decades in Dungeons and Dragons and I'm sure other role-playing games.

    The concept is actually very old, NS is just yet another game to use it.

    It was certifiably present in the Ultima IV game. Which is 1986 or 1987.

    Who knows? Maybe we'll get lucky and the NS team will decide to steal something back and replace the Fade model with a hot elf chick. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Blink is one of the generic names for a teleport spell among roleplaying games. If you want to be technical, TSR thought of it first.

    Yes, Blink as a spell, and the Blink Dog from the old monstrous manuals <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Anyone else sign up for the War3 Exp Beta? I don't play WC3 much, but I love beta testing <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I've had the game for a while but never really got into ladder play. But I've recently decided to shoot for that Footie icon (25 human wins).

    Blink is an old Scion ability in BattleZone II... Did exactly the same thing as the Fade's blink, but worked a lot better (The lack of anything but ground terrain helps)...

    ...

    I though blink was a spell from the original D&D, or some other incarnation thereof. In which case, TSR thought of it way before anyone else!

    Blink is also a horribly crappy spell in Diablo I.

    Blink is also a special unit ability in SMAC (Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri), which allows units to bypass base defense bonuses when attacking an enemy base.
