Resource Nozzle Placement

I dont get this
I dont know if this topic has already been posted, or if I just missed the update in the 1.04 changes. But why is it that I cant build 2 res towers as marine on....blah what is it? ns_bast? The one with Vent-3c, archiving, and DataCore. The double resource area is Holoroom.

If this is something old, just gimmie the answer and lock the thread, if not...someone tell me why you cant build 2 res towers in that double resource room

Its a bug. Marines never take holo now.

i realized that the only way to both res towers in holoroom as a gorge is to turn away from the nozzle and back up into it while constantly trying to drop it...thats one messed up bug

It's in ns_hera, and yes, it seems to have been a problem since 1.04i BETA (which is basically 1.04 final build anyway).

The map's Hera and its part of the 1.04 update, the dev. thought that it was too powerful a location with 2 res noz so they deactivated one, but until they release a new client-side patch they can't actually remove that dead noz. If your facing hera entrance its the right noz that still works, the left is just a waste of resources. Cheers!

Note: Realize that this is my opinion and that what I say in this case is totally untrue.

Umm, Lidstrom, they both work. I've tested it. Any gorge who knows Hera can easily get'em both. I've never tried as marine comm before, most can't though. They both work, and they are both captureable if you know how.

The solutions for gorge is to walk up on the railing, turn and face the node and drop it.

I know I saw a post with screenshots and detailed way HOWTO do it as a comm, but I dont remember where it is, try searching about it.

rez towers seem to have 'grown' a slight bit

all you have to do it drop the nozels as FAR away from each other as you can

Yes, I know it looks like they always drop in the same place, however if you try and drop them to the outside edges it iwll work

    .....()......()...... nozels
..../...........\.. where you wana try and put em

Yeah, the issue seems to be that the radius for auto-finding res nodes has increased. For instance, as gorge, you don't have to look RIGHT at a res node or be RIGHT in the perfect spot when placing a resource tower. It auto-aligns itself when you get close enough. In 1.04 final, this "close enough" got farther away from the res node, and in the holoroom, the two res nodes' auto-align circles overlap, and the res node on the right seems to take precedence over the one on the left, so the game keeps trying to assign the new res tower to the one on the right (even if it's already built).
The solution is to stand on the far left (or perhaps try placing the RT at the far left as comm.) That way the right node's auto-alignment won't come into play.
(This is all just conjecture, but it makes sense to me )

Actually, I have another question about nozzle placement:

Why are they placed in the places they are? Such as in the map ns_nothing (if I remember correctly, it's the one with Power Silo, Cargo Bay, and The Great Viaduct). Why is there a nozzle above a bottomless pit, suspended on a bridge? What starship manufacturer/space station builder would place that there? I don't really have that much of a problem with it, but there are times where I wonder why and how a resource nozzle could be placed on a grating (since there are other maps that do this as well).

IIRC, the storyline implies that nanomachines make up basically the entire physical entity of solid materials. That's why medpacks can rain from the ceiling - the nanomachines making up the structure of the ceiling re-configure into a medpack, and then gravity takes over. Nanomachines surrounding that new 'void' in the ceiling would immediately fill in the gap.

I guess the nodes can be on a grate because the nanogoop can 'flow' through the metal of the grate. Sort of like electricity - electrons will flow through a conductive material, but you don't actually see it because it occurs at so small of a scale.

Actually MedHead makes a good point.

The simple answer is that some mappers make an effort to put Resource Nozzles where they would be logically needed. Other mappers just put them where they feel is appropriate to gameplay, regardless of the purpose of the location. I prefer the former approach because it doesn't break the suspension of disbelief.
