Small Note For Commanders

<div class="IPBDescription">regarding MT</div> Commanders may not realize but when you have MT you can see aliens on the mini-map as little red dots.

If you pay attention to this and use your head you've got the best intel you can imagine.

Learn to recognize the gorge by his distinctive movement pattern, as he passes near an outpost/squad assasinate him.

Learn to recognize when the aliens are distracted, strike where they are not.

Learn to pre-empt their attacks, phases are hard to defend when the skulks are upon them, get the intire team deployed befor the skulks arrive.

Learn to spot the tactics they are using, if they're building defs in a vent it'll really mess up their day if you get some acrobatic marines to boost someone up there and knife em down.

Motion Tracking is a nice upgrade for your marines.

But its an invaluable upgrade for your chair.

    Well said.

Without MT the comm is pratically blind. With MT is like they have a radar station.Ala Command and Conquer.

Once the good version of those mini-maps are installed, I shall be doing this more <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

Agree, I get MT for me not my stinky marines. I like to be able to warn my marines when there about to get hit and where, just so they can ignore me and I can say 'I told you so'.

yes, agreed, MT is most important as an INTEL device, not to splatter skulks. when to attack, where to attack, where to defend. its the surprise that is the kharaa's greatest strength early on.

Yeah, my scrim strat of IP+ARMORY+ARMSLAB+ARMOR1 is now the IP+ARMORY+OBS+MT.

    It's some 200% better. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

The intel you get is *INSANE.* Nearly nerf-worthy I should say, probaby'll be limited to a certain radius in the future. But then again, it's not that hard to hide an obs somewhere on the map...

Wow, I never really thought of that. I did have one game where I payed attention to the red dots when I did have MT, but never really thought much about it still or if it was because of motion tracking. I should keep that mind next time I comm.

Motion tracking is important, BUT I believe that an arms lab upgrade is more important. Almost all Aliens D chambers the first hive, so it is important to be able to counter carapace. Motion tracking allows the marines to prefire (which most marines dont do anyways), but if a marine does not have the firepower to drop a simple skulk, how can one protect their RTs, or even expand for that matter. And lets say you can successfully defend a hive or an RT, how much resoucres will you spend on health, turrets, phasegates and mines before you build an armslab first?

Firewater, I do not <i>totally</i> disagree with you. You have a valid point. By getting the arms lab upgrade, you <i>do</i> enable your marines to kill a skulk, lerk, fade, etc... with fewer shots. However, I see motion tracking as the more important upgrade first. It is the marine's job to kill, and you have to trust them to improvise so that, when working as a team, they can defeat the enemy even if slightly behind tech wise with their weapons. It is the commander's job not just to command, but to inform as well. With motion tracking up, you can prepare your marines ahead of time. And as I have said in other threads, a prepared marines usually equals a live marine, and a live marine is a happy marine. Motion tracking, when coupled with a reasonably attententive commander, can allow the marines to be act instead of react. Intelligence wins wars, guns just help push it along faster. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

The only reason i say armslab before Obs is because i've seen WAY too many times where my team has had MT, and managed to lose all their expansions simply because the skulks with level 3 cara were able to close the gap a lot easier. I get an armslab because I assume that everyone I play with is a newb, unless I have played with them before and I know what they can and cannot do. So i need them to be able to survive long enough (armor upgrade) and be able to use less bullets per skulk (weapon upgrade).

ROFL last game i was called a "wall hacker"

And commanders should use more that "enemies nearby" waypoint thing (right click on top of an alien).
Usually when i com, i help my team by "marking" aliens with waypoints, before i upgrade MT. It is not very easy, if they are moving, but several times i have seen an alien in dark corner or in to a roof, when marines enters a room. Probably that skulk hold's still and waits that marines gets close, so putting wp on them isn't very hard.

And that wp stays on top of that alien, until someone kills it or if i put another wp somewhere else.

And marking a gorge in early game is great idea. For example:
Map is eclipse. Aliens starting hive is in main and probably gorge moves in to a compurer core. So one scan in comp core and wp on top of a gorge <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

i've tried messing around with the "attack enemy" waypoint, but like you said, while they're moving it's nigh on impossible. however what i want to know is, what happens when you tag one, and they go out of sight?

from my perspective it looks like the tag dissappears and then re-appears when a marine can see it (the computer decides if he can see it so it's good for people who overlook skulks)

is that what the marines see as well? or can they continiously track it with the tag?

I think that wp stays on top of an alien as long as he lives or if commander doesn't remove that wp, not sure thought <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
