Gorge Hunting

they can't win if they can't build
Lets face it. What can you really accomplish as a rambo that the comm can't do with a scanner sweep? Maybe you can spawn camp for a while but you certainly aren't going to kill the hive by yourself are you? Anyway, killing the gorge can buy your team so much time if done early on 2 or 3 times. Especially if you are patient and wait til he drops the RT. you kill the gorge and waste his 22 RP. They go down fast when unbuilt.

My new favorite pastime is Gorge Hunting. It's a great hobby and anyone can learn it! First of all you have to know where the alien hive is and you have to think like a gorge.

"Hmm, i'm a gorge and my starting hive is maintenance (ns_eclipse). I'll either get the south loop res or head stright for comp core."

So as the crazy rambo marine that you are you head out to computer core on the eclipse side. There are plenty of dark corners here so just sit and wait. He'll be there eventually right? When he shows up .... POW he never saw it coming. Unload your pistol into him and finish off with the lmg! Or like i said before if you are feeling patient and brave wait til he drops the res and hit them where it hurts.

Easier said than done right? First you have to get there without any alien seeing or hearing you. There is the chance that the gorge will be escorted by a skulk or 2, etc. But nobody said this game was easy. As far as the escort thing goes remember what your goal is. Who cares if that skulk mauls you to death a split second after you drop the pig. Run straight at that Son of a Mother.

If you pull this off twice they are gonna get real mad and a few things might happen. Maybe that gorge will throw up a OC or 2. GOOD! you just made them 28 res further from the second hive! Maybe a generous skulk with 33 res will temp gorge for an OC. GOOD! they just wasted 27 res and thats 1 less skulk attacking your res and structures. Killing the gorge 3 times and only keeping the aliens to 1 or 2 res nodes will win you the game provided you have a decent comm.

Now motion tracking adds a whole new level to gorge hunting. It just dawned on me the other day. MT shows you the difference between skulks, lerks and gorges. How? By how fast they are moving silly . I sat in a dark corner of comp core for 2 minutes studying the MT blips and waiting for the gorge. Needless to say i scored 1 more fatty for the team.

Now i can already hear the responses of "But what if they have redemption!" and "omg a good gorge is never alone" but no strategy is perfect. This one does work, i've done it plenty of times on different servers noobs and veterans alike.

This is what I do as soon as I see a TF in base. I know its a noob comm, and we'll need all the breaks we can get. Once I killed the gorge 3 times and took out 2 rt's! We still lost....

Nice post! I totally agree with you, but every time I've gone Gorge hunting, he wasn't being escorted at all. Like taking candy from a fatty fat fat baby.

When I Gorge, I get the D chambers down, cap a node or two, find me a nice quiet hidey hole KINDA near a hive, and don't move - at all. If they have motion tracking, it won't pick you up. I keep my team informed as to how many RPs I've got, and I ask them to make sure the area around me and the hive is clear before I move out to build it.

Hurhurhur... nothing's more satisfying (besides downing a Fade with a LMG) than seeing a terrified Gorge run away spraying desperately as you gun it down.

Then again, nothing's more embarrassing (besides dying to parasites) than being killed by a Gorge spray.

Pah, gorges can easily and completley avoid this little strategy by plopping down a defense tower and getting redemption. That's what I do, and marines are never able to kill me.

Fortunately for most of us marine players, many gorges are too stupid to get redemption, so hunt away =).

When two hives are up, i take carapace and celerity to a gorge. With cara gorge can deal lots of damage and with celerity it is really fast and hard to hit. I have several times killed a lonely marine, who think that he can pop one little gorge. First i web him and then use the spit. Sometimes i dont even have to web him at all, i can take him out using only spit.

Well and with one hive...level 3 carapace and it is possible to kill one marine.
And i just love that when they take their knife out and start to chase me, especially, if i have celerity

NS is starting to remind me of the NES cult classic *gasp* Duck Hunt.

    *shakes his fist*

I'd kill that dog if I had the chance.

When I gorge, I ALWAYS take redemption. Running from point to point dropping res towers is too risky, and you can't always be assured of an escort. However, redemption is still not going to protect (a lot more than an lmg) against an hmg, and definitely not against a mine or a grenade.

Heres a question: can you shoot the web directly at an enemy? Or do you have to throw it down on the ground next to them twice to web them?

you can web marines directly, but you won't be able to completely immobolize them (i.e. direct webbing only stacks once or twice).

killing a gorge is an economic blow. crushing someone's economy in a strategy game is a sure win.

But when you hit them with web spray, they cant shoot as if they ran into a web and do slow down a lot, right?

Hint : In comp core hive one of the large green panels is transparent, and you can walk through it and hide in the alcove behind. It's not obvious and many people miss it, assuming it is just another solid wall.

Great hiding place, for either team.
