A Couple Of Beginner Questions

I'd like to get my feet wet in the map-making arena, and I've hit my first hurdle..

Much like the "Hello World" programs, the humble beginnings of the level designer might be the "Box" level. Using the latest Hammer downloads, I've created and compiled the box.bsp file. It's in the correct /maps folder, but it doesn't show up as an option when creating a multi-player game in NS.

Is there something in the header of the .bsp file that tells the HL engine which mod the map is for? If so, would this be a Hammer setup issue? I've followed the tutorial on initial setup, and checked it twice.

Second question: Would the original NS map creators consider releasing the source to their maps to the community? Or maybe a toolbox of pre-defined entities?

box.rmf attached if you want to have a look.

Thanks in advance.

    It may have to be ns_box.

    Just so you know, there are some sticky threads at the top which should help if you haven't seen them already.

    I doubt we'll be seeing full open source maps anytime in the near future. Anyway, your map most likely isn't showing up on the list from lack of certain gameplay type entities, such as CC's, Hive's, and info_gameplays.

    Thanks for the tips.

    I should have added, I tried the ns_* naming convention, and I renamed an existing ns_ map into non ns_ to see if that was it. That doesn't seem to be a problem though. I'll try forcing a load. Wonder what else it could be?

    Your map must have an info_mapinfo in it before it will show up in the map listing.

    Hope that helps <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Thanks guys, you were on the money with the info_mapinfo entity.

    You needn't tweak the info_mapinfo stuff though. I believe it's regulated by the server patches.
