All I know and care is that it has a limited range and goes to where ever you shoot. A fast projectile or hitscan. Do hitscan weapons have a range? if not then it is a projectile.

well me and a freind were doing some testing the other night he went marine and i went alien, we were doing this on tanith, he was building res towers at double res reactor room. i placed my crosshair over him and shot my parasite and when he moved away the res tower was parasited and not him, now he wasnt moving when i parasited him, and the crosshair was close 2 but not on the RT. but yet still he didnt get parasited and the rt did. confused as i am

Bizarrely, I've only just noticed that paralyse is a projectile. Crazy.

I believe it's a projectile btw. Or at least it does have a graphic, as I'm sure I've caught glimpse of them.

I've not seen a parasite model, it *feels* like a hitscan weapon with limited range, but with no visual effects that i can see at all, other than a hitting sound, it's very difficult to tell exactly what's going on when you use parasite. I would welcome some informative visuals, perhaps some small parasite model that sticks into a wall for a short period after you fire. Even if its hitscan, this can still work - drawing the parasite as if it were a bullet decal.

I know for sure that all frontiersmen wepons are hit scan. Bile bombs and spore cloud seem to be projectile as far as I know everything else is hit scan for the kharaa

well i know projectile is like a ranged weapon so i guess hitscan is close ranged sorta weapon

    Ummm...no..

To give you the simple explanation, a projectile weapon actually fires a object at the enemy. Hitscan weapons however are different, you simply place the crosshairs over a target and fire. The computer then calculates whether you hit or not, if you "hit" then the enemy takes damage (note:most hitscan weapons have a more or less infinite range),if you dont then you will simply see the bullet-hitting-wall effect where you had aimed (assuming you hit a wall; which, considering the environments NS takes place in-is an inevitablility).

Have others experienced mixed results tagging marines clustered around one another, using an armory or building something ? There seems to be a slight halo to everything that parasite drifts towards.

Or my aim is really crummy. I'm thinking of my favorite Hera annoyance - parasiting marines as soon as they spawn, before they hop off the portal. Most don't bother to check out the vent, and those that do usually don't have a teammate to help them up to give chase. I have a feeling the distance limitation is short enough to affect hitting targets from the vent in Hera's marine start.

No nny. The 'hitbox' just when it comes to parasite seems to be rather large.

I *think* this is a byproduct of the team trying to make para easier to use.

    Example

    | <- parasite 'beam' will only hit marine in exact line, so the crosshair has to be exact

    | | <- parasite 'beam' much wider, which results in easier to hit, but means that will tend to 'snag' on other objects in the way (such as armouries)

Parasite is hitscan, therefore no projectile, therefore no hitbox. It hits exactly where you fire it, but I suspect that dodgy results might be due to hitbox errors in your targets (and we all know how poor NS's hitboxes are).

A hitscan weapon can still have a 'bullet size' even when there is no 'bullet'. Think blink. Parasite could easily have been changed to make it easier to connect with. Although i don't notice the mentioned behaviour.

Why does it have a model, then?

It's in the directory, right up there with spikes, and paralysis.

I highly doubt blink works like that. I'd think it would be that a point is traced, then it tries to see if it can move the fade there. Ever tried to blink through a WoL? You do for about half a second, then get pushed back to where you were.

I've never, ever seen a hitscan weapon in HL which didn't have the same size hit. Blink probably uses the same functions to find its destination as hitscan weapons do, and (as far as I know) the target the tracer function hits is the same point size.

Why is the bind for nukes still in? Why do the spikes show tracers when they're hitscan? Who knows?
