    how i'd love to get my little hands on a quad proc system. HLDS refuses to understand SMP arch.

    *sigh* the only thing that server is good for is webdevelepment or something of the like. Because even if linux tried to split it across processors it would only amount to ~800Mhz of power. And not to mention all the overhead it requires.

    I'm sorry my friend but as cool as that machine is, it just won't work with HLDS.

    UNLESS you want to run multiple servers off that one machine, that *WOULD* run good. Here's a followup, if you have multiple processors it would run good, but deffinatly not multiple processors at that speeds. HELL CRACKER YOU DIDN'T NOTICE IN YOU FIRST POST EITHER!!!

    ok, refuting your post a HLDS sees only 1 proc....so a single 200Mhz Proc can NOT run even a 8 players NS game.

    I agree Cracker, but it would be interesting to see what it would do <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Explode? Film your server when you start HLDS up, just in case it happens...

    I agree that it would not "run good," but would it run well?

    not at all, you need at the minimun 400Mhz for a 12player DoD server.

    You you could run multiple servers.
    Only if these multiple servers were maybe the Original HLDS from late 1998, and you had 4 players on each one. Sheesh. Don't hand out worthless advice..

    I think the formula that's been thrown around is what.. 800mhz Minimum, with an additional 30mhz per player? (On intel boxes, no idea about AMD) However, that might be speculation, or heresay picked up over on the SA forums.

    hahahaha, even the newbie is right.

    masterswordman, plz don't give out advice unless you have a clue what your talking about plz. You can't impress any of us here so stop trying.

    Seriously, that was perhaps the *worst* advice ever. I don't think a 200 MHz box could run *any* HLDS, much less one for NS.

    Cute grammar criticism, Narfwak. As opposed to running well, ajannoyingname's quad-box would run poorly. It is good to use correct and clear grammar, but in this case you perhaps only obfuscated the actual answer to the original question. A simple "The answer is 'no'." added to the after "Would it run well?" would have fixed your post right up.

    That would make a fantastic web, email or small database server. Since it won't work for NS, may I have it? <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Just a quick question: running a small NS-server on my 266Mhz Linux machine is out of the question I take it? Was it 800Mhz minimum you recomended? *sighs*
