That X-com Download

<div class="IPBDescription">Anyone know where it is?</div> There was a thread posted a while ago that contained links to some downloads of X-Com, actually all the three games.

Now I can't get the search engine to find it for me and I can't seem to get the right site by googling, so does anyone have the links?

The 2 oldest parts of x-com are so called abandonware (search for that keyword) , wich means that nobody has earned money with this game for 10 or more years and noone cares anymore if its copied for free.
but the later released x-coms are still in shops and illegal to download anywere.

I was of the impression that all the first three games were freeware and that the site was "official". If that's incorrect I apologise, it was not my intention to make this a warez post and as far as I can recall all the responses to the previous post (to which I refer initially) were positive with a nostalgic undertone.

Once again, if it's 'warez', sorry, but I don't *think* it is.

Um, I actually bought a $15 (US dollars) boxed set of X-Com 1, 2, and 3 about a year ago. Came with a nifty poster for X-Com: Alliance (even though I'm pretty sure it's been canceled-- the poster says it'll be coming out for Windows 95).

That info gives you a decent idea of how long ago the early X-Com games earned the publisher any money. So whether or not it is legal to download any X-Com game depeds on how you define it. Some people say 10 years off the shelves, others say 5, others say 15...it's all subjective. And at $15 for all 3 (though hard to find) why <i>wouldn't</i> you want to get the full, no-content-missing version of these historic gaming classics?

Well for me *personally* I think it would be completely legal since I have during my lifespan bought 2 of the games (I think I borrowed the first one so that could be debatable), I do however see your point.

I wonder were games like that go... there really should be piles of old games lying around here... oops, there are <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'>

I've still got my copy of X-Com recieved for Christmas in its first year of being on the market. And it sits in its jewel case and never gets touched because I just download the cracked version so I don't have to deal with copy protection.

Although in those days, copyright circumvention meant "sitting down and copying out the codes on the manual pages for your friend".

Hehe... memories...

I still have my old X-com Disc right here.. Its kind of unplayable since the earthmap spins around at about ten million fps <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'>

Im sure there is software to make your comp slow things down a bit to let you play these oldtimers. Anyone know of some?

Wish some talanted gang would make a singleplayer HL conversion of X-com, complete with good old turnbased strategic combat... oh the joy...

The company stills owns the copyright for another 80 or so years, regardless of whether or not they still produce the game still.

Theres a version on the net for all you people out there who bought the game ( like me <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'> ), That has been worked around so it works perfectly for windows XP ... Speed is adjusted, and has no problems being run - i've got it, but I forgot where I got it from.

the offical rule on abandone wares is that they are ILLIEGAL

some of the abandonewares sites (the more 'reputable' ones) will have a small thing talking about it, and saying, yes it is not legal no matter what is said about em. They just think it should be legal

and infact periodicly companies will give up the rights to older games and release em ;D

I have been trying to get ahold of xcom for quite a while. Ive never played it, but Ive heard quite a bit about it. Havent been able to find it anywhere, for download or to buy. The company really just ought to release it. Or at least make it possible to buy a download of it on their site.

Go to the downloads section of that website I gave, I think X-Com is available there to download.
