The balance is uber good!
Played on StarNova Troopers today, (207.127.210.8:27015) and I must say that people are really catching on.

Both times I was marine, and we had a good commander.

The first time it was uhh.. the map with Generator, Ventalation, etc. and we were really organized! We went out in groups, built stuff, secured hives, etc. We were a little late and only got Generator, so they got fades.

But these were no normal fades.

They charged us, in unison, almost exactly 2 minutes after getting a 2nd hive. 5+ fades charged everywhere, all together, and decimated our defences. Our brazen marines tried to hold them off, going in group suicide missions of 5+ marines, only to be decimated after taking out one or two fades. We went back and fourth for awhile, until they finally got the 3rd hive. We hunkered down at base, charging out one at a time and taking out a fade or two (and even knifing one fade) They finally took us out, but nobody was mad. It was a good game.

Then the 2nd game was on Bast. Another good comm took the chair, and we set out. Took the double res point first, secured it, and pushed on to the Feedwater hive. After securing that we moved onto Engine Room. Both were easily taken, as we were knifing res nozzles on the way and crippling the aliens. I'd also like to think I helped a little with taking out the early game Gorge . We fought a little, pushed out skulk rushes, and finally got to the main hive. Everybody had HA and HMGs, GLs, or Shottys. We still went in groups, even though skulks and lerks did little, and got the hive in the end. A lone lerk tried to sit in the dark with a def chamber, but our motion tracking found him and we took him out.

I played a game which went rather strangely... The marines on Eclipse didn't build turrets. Ever. The just used all their resources (seemingly) on shotguns. They did not live long. The next map--they still did almost no turreting, only jetpacks. Many jetpacks. We have our second hive in Computer Core welded to death, and then the rest of the map was our frantic 1-hive skulky bodies trying to reach them in midair.

In the end we won, but it was close for a while when we were back at one hive--they just didn't attack at our moment of vulnerability. And it's probably one of the first times I played a game where the marine team DIDN'T go turret-happy... sort of strange. It was like the 1.0 mindset was finally wearing off.

I think I played the most hilarious game last night. It was about 7v7 on Hera. We had the Comp Core hive and I went off node capping. My skulks mutilated almost all of their base once, and crippled all of one of their expansions. We had killed off everything except the CC and maybe the armoury. I had then wandered off to setup the vent hive and had got it going. Then suddenly one skulk yells out "They have jetpacks!", we had obviosuly missed a well placed proto lab from earlier and they came zooming through the level towards our comp core hive. Having only skulks, we killed some, I ran back and dropped 8 def below the hive, but, they eventually killed it.

Hearing no beeping sound, they all zoomed off to vent hive, which was 3/4 done and mutilated it, no alien was even close to it. So, I plopped down a new hive at comp core, and I had 2 skulks alive with me. Having captrued a good 5 orr 6 nodes, I was maxed out at 100 RP. Again, hearing no beeping, they came zooming back. My 2 skulks chomped and fly around, killing about 5 jetpacking marines, much to my delight. Then they came back in force... and killed the hive. So, I dropped a new one! My dead men over voicecomm were keepign us informed of the marine movements ("Large pack coming in, top vent!"), which helped our 2 skulks kill them long before they reached the hive. They also kept asking "How much longer?" and I saw the hive build slowly, till it was one notch from completing. Then over voicecomm came an "oh ****, they are massing, couple shotguns, all JP". En route one my skulks died, so I was down to me and a skulk. They came zooming in, but the hive came online! But it died after one person had spawned, and was mutilated So.... I dropped a new hive! Marines flew around *not* shooting me, if they killed me, it would be all over. Instead they just kept hitting the hive. I picked off 3 marines with my spit, much to my delight and my fellow skulk killed a few more. So, the marines came back again, and finally my last skulk died. They came in, killed the hive once more. So.... I dropped down a new hive! (They were getting annoyed by now).

Finally the figured out that they had to kill me, surrounded by my 8 def chambers. I hopped around the chambers spitting everywhere, killled 4 more guys knifing my chambers and then my hive died again. So, I dropped down a new hive! By now, alll 6 marines were attacking me. Most with guns, some with knives. Hopping around I knocked off maybe one more guy, but ym chambers were slowly dieing, and I wasn't healing fast enough. The marine sensed a kill, and all came rushing in with their knives. My hive died once again... so... guess what? I built a new one! Seconds later, I got knifed to death

I couldn't stop laughing at the end, no marine understood how I stayed alive for a good 10 minutes

Been playing a ton of games. 1.03 was too much in the Marines favor and it needed some balancing, but I think its definitely swung over to the Kharaa's favor now. I have yet to see a successful First Hive Rush (that were 25% of the games in 1.03), which is fine, as well as the Two Hive Stand that was par for the course in 1.03 also (lost tons of games as Kharaa to this with good Marines). However, in 1.04 I see a LOT more successful Initial Skulk Rushes as well as much better ability to contain the Marines. I think its a combination of slower Marine start (increased equipment costs), MUCH improved regen ability, and people finally understanding how Skulks work. The beginning game of the Kharaa has been slightly buffed and the beginning game of the Marine has been nerfed some which adds to an advantage to the Kharaa. Rarely do I see HAs anymore as Marines never have resources other than one hive maybe and their starting point. Instead I see desperate JP rushes that have a low chance of victory (unless the JP rush was what was being set up from the beginning).

Last night I participated (as a Skulk) in five successful Initial Skulk Rushes (i.e. victory in the first two minutes of the game) over 3 servers. As a Marine I died to the ISR three times. I've seen a total of maybe 3-4 Marine victories (two were because the Skulks thought they were being successful in their Marine Start rush and allowed a couple Marines to grab several Res Towers with no defense) and have never lost on the Kharaa side.

Thats pretty funny Comprox Nothing is more annoying than killing the hive, hearing the beeping, watching the Aliens die in the tab window, and then the beeping stops and just 1 Alien is still alive even though the Hive has been dead for a couple minutes
