<div class="IPBDescription">Host/Server/Steps for Newbe?</div> Hello <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo-->
I have:
- HL and NS installed with NS patch 1.04
When I try to create and host a game...
- i can't choose a NS map (is just the HL map in the list)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Questions:
- no need the "dedicated server patch" (about 80 MB)?
- it is needed to check box "Dedicated server" in the game menu?
- What are the procedure to create a game (in step)?
------------------------------------------------------------
STEPS:
1- ?
2- ?
3- ?
*Thanks for all of you helping me! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

As for dedicated or not, a dedicated server runs without allowing you to play on it, and as a result it will run better for whoever plays on it. A non-dedicated server (a listen server) you can play on too, though when you're finished playing and exit, it will close the server down. I don't know if you knew this already but just incase you need to know the very basics, that should be enough. From the game menu you should be able to start a basic server very easily.
NOW, if you want to host a server on a separate machine and have it run for a while, setting just a dedicated server isn't that great. Get it set up and working and then if you're serious, get <a href='http://metamod.org/' target='_blank'>Metamod</a> and <a href='http://www.adminmod.org/' target='_blank'>Admin Mod</a> or <a href='http://amxmod.net/amx.php' target='_blank'>AMX mod</a> and really get some good plug-ins to help out, particularly <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=8&t=22310' target='_blank'>unstuck</a> (helps players get unstuck if they blink into a wall or are built on or something). I don't run a dedicated server so I can't help you out in detail, but that was the basics.
Make sure the "start in" box relates to the path of your hl.exe file:
eg
target c:\games\halflife\hl.exe -noipx -game ns <all the other variables here>
start in c:\games\halflife
That's how it should look.
Take a read through the last few weeks' postings here too as this has come up more than once. I can't remember if the shortcut is fixed in the later versions or not, so check it anyway. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
