Ns Is Nerfed :(

i downloaded NS last night on 56k, so as you may have guessed, it took hours and hours and hours, which kinda adds to my dissappointment...

none of my ns shortcuts (the one in the folder, start menu etc) work apart from the desktop one...(and the destop one is the only one with an actual icno too) not a major problem just a tad irritating...

when the game does load i get all kinds of stupid problems:
1) in the filtering options where you select which game you want servers for, Ns sometimes doesnt show up in the list with hl, dmc, tfc etc, so i cant find servers for it, but thats only occasionally

2) ill boot up NS and try to join a server and il get a message telling me that NS isnt installed, bit wierd considering i booted NS to get that message <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

3) when i quit ns, the menu music wont stop, it takes a computer reboot to make it go away <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

4) if i try to setup a lan, the ns maps arent in the map list, just the HLDM ones

this has put me right off NS already and i still havent played it yet! please can someone help me so i can at least try the game out. lets hope the game itself is nowhere near as buggy as he options menus <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    are you sure the start menu shortcut doesn't work? If not then open up your hl.exe (or cstrike.exe for CS retail, i think) and activate NS in the custom games menu.

    Make a shortcut w/ the target:

    C:\SIERRA\Half-Life\hl.exe -game ns -noipx -nointro -console


    Also, the DESKTOP ICON does NOT WORK, k.

    ull try what you said, but the desktop icon IS THE ONLY one out of them that boots the game, despite the fact ive read that the desktop one doesnt boot it

    The reason the desktop icon screws up/doesn't work, is because the 'START IN' folder is not set. You need to right-click, hit 'properties' and set that to your base Half-Life folder. (ex: Mine is D:\Half-Life, NOT D:\Half-Life\ns) After fixing that, the desktop icon works just fine. Just a little nothing that slipped through the cracks.

    I found when I first had NS, if I tried running it from the shortcut on the desktop, it told me it wasnt installed, but if I ran the normal HL shortcut, then activated NS in game, [ or just joined an NS server ] it worked fine.
