How Do You Counter Jp/hmg Rush?

&(*@#$$#.. I absolutely hate it.. Marines just get 1 -2 res nodes and they save up for JP, HMG right a way (with weapon upgrades!!).. All you need is 1 good player and a commander with hp/ammo spam script and usaully that's a hive down.. I've seen this being pulled off before the second hive even started.. basically the entire team pretty much camp inside the base and the command go for jp and ammo upgrade as soon as he has the res.

And Its a big risk for the commander, like relocating the base.
Also, dont forget, jetpacks will probably jump up to a cost of about 11 to 13 ish I suspect in v 1.1
Only thing i can reccommend is good scouting. If you see marines basically hiding in base, or a proto lab early, or the ammo depot shaking (shows its upgrading to advanced armory), LET YOUR TEAM KNOW. Get several people to go lerk and hide in the hive room, ready to spine down anyone coming in. Also, your gorge should build up defense in the entrances to the base, totally closing the entrances if possible.
Its hard to counter, but if you see it coming atleast you have a chance.
Maybe in scrimmage this is counterable due to higher quality players.. But in pub games this can be unstoppable
and especially real early in the game--where nobody has res for lerks.
Anyways, i'll tell you a good story. I was playing on a public server with a friend or two, and they rushed us on NS_HERA. we were marines.
They kept killing us--the marines just sucked. We were down to 1 IP (all of our stuff was at the top, near CC) and the commander placed another, i was building it.. then i died with 1 bar left to go.
the other marines are just standing there after spawning and i'm like "BUILD THE OTHER IP"
(8v8.. so it takes a bit)
finally 20 seconds later he finishs it.. then i tell them all to just go DOWN the elevator, because the skulks just rush up and attack us all in a small space.. = death...
so we do that, and the commander decides he wants to rush them back. we get an arms lab/jet/hmg (we secured base first and got Reception + 2 holoroom nodes
we MASSIVELY sieged datacore.. just MASSIVELY. 3 Sieges took it out QUICK. and we had a bunch of turrets.
Then we went for processing, and we sieged Ventiliation down.
(They had a couple fades, but the fades died)
they were at archiving.. so we setup camp and sieged them again. (we had a couple HA/HMGs, and the others were Jetpack/HMG or jetpack/shotty)
Was a VERY good comeback
Would you mind posting/linking to an appropriate demo? I'm a decent lerk/skulk and can only get JPers about 40% of the time. The only time I'm consistent against them is when I'm a gorge with web.
the demo for RED V TAU and others
No, really. One game I played, a skulk got mowed down by a HMG quite early on and typed "they have HMGs!" I replied "No. They have HMG." I was right, they only had the resources to field one.
HA costs 50 res to research, and 26 to outfit. That's HUGE. The prototype lab itself is expensive. If they've spent all this cash on equipment early on, they HAVEN'T spent it on their base(s). They can't have secured a hive, and they probably haven't put down very many turrets in their base.
Take the fight to them. Attack their base. Destroy that expensive prototype lab, kill the IPs. Carpe jugulum.
As for dealing with the HA themselves... well, pray that your skulks are good. You also might want to move to another hive. Basically, you play against a rush strategically - the commander's just gambled a large number of resources on an early victory. If you can sneak out the back door and get another hive up (or even repel the assault) the enemy commander's more than likely screwed himself.
If you do succeed in repelling a tech rush, waste no time in attacking. They are weakened, and don't have the res do rearm properly.
By "rush" I'm assuming you mean that they focus on teching up as soon as humanly possible, rather than consolidating their position, because if they actually spend the time to set up outposts and whatnot and get HA properly, you should have had a second hive up in that time!
Well, no, if you can the SKULKS are morons. It's their job to defend the gorge.
